Clay he expresses a wish to obtain a statement in writing from yourself, giving, in detail, a substantial account of that portion of the Conversation of General Jackson which re lated to himself and Mr. Adams, or, in other words, the bargain and sale story, and that this statement is intended for self-protection only.
