Exciting secrets are waiting to be revealed in a new story arc set in a manor in the heart of Paris in the seventh book of this fascinating historical fiction series. Camille LeClerc has just moved into the grand estate Rousseau—one of the largest and most beautiful manor homes in all of Paris—with her mother, the cook. Living in the manor is a dream come true for Camille and brings her closer to the wealthy Rousseaus, with whom she has always believed she shares a special bond, despite her mother’s constant urging to remember her place. Soon Camille is right at home inside the manor, and it’s not long before she stumbles upon family treasures that have been hidden away for many years. Treasures that might be the key to unlocking secrets of the manor’s past…and her own.

In his acclaimed, award-winning novels Alex and Irène, Pierre Lemaitre created an unforgettable character in Police Commandant Camille Verhoeven. Now, in Camille, the final volume in Lemaitre's internationally bestselling trilogy of "meta-meta detective" novels (The New York Times), Verhoeven faces his most harrowing case yet, and the ultimate reckoning for the diminutive yet tenacious protagonist. Anne Forestier finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time when she is trapped in the middle of a bank robbery. Shot three times, she is lucky to survive-and morbidly unlucky to remember the face of her assailant. Followed home from her hospital bed, Anne is in grave danger. But one thing stands in her favor-a dangerously vengeful partner, carrying the scars of devastating loss, who will break all the rules to protect the woman he loves: Commandant Camille Verhoeven. Following the horror of Irène and the thrills of Alex, Camille is the heart-stopping final chapter. Drawn once again into a labyrinthine web with answers ever out of reach, Camille must draw on all his talent to face an enemy who threatens everything he holds dear.

The Other Side of Camille is based on actual events in the life of a young single mom trying to escape the grips of a family legacy deep-rooted in dark religious beliefs, witchcraft, and satanism. Camille is characterized in the fight for her soul and that of her child against the forces of good and evil. In an escape to be free from the family legacy, she relocates the immediate family to a city and the church of Jesus Christ. Believing she is free, Camille takes on the dangerous task of attempting exorcisms that she was not equipped or qualified to explore, especially when you have not gone through complete healing and deliverance yourself, not fully addressing own possible trauma and mental illness; living in denial. The writer of the story witnessed at the time a series of strange, unexplained occurrences with not only Camille but a terrified child who appear to be under some type of spell with very little power to function independently. The writer is led to believe the story is a classic case found in Matthew 12:43–45, “When an unclean spirit leaves a person, it wanders through arid regions seeking rest without finding it. Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came. And when it comes it finds the house swept clean and tidy. Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more wicked than itself. And the last state of that person is worse than the first.’”
