Volume 4 of Advances in Medicinal Chemistry is comprised of six chapters on a wide range of topics in medicinal chemistry, including molecular modeling, structure-based drug design, organic synthesis, peptide conformational analysis, biological assessment, structure-activity correlation, and lead optimization. Chapter 1 presents an account about amino acid-based peptide mimetics corresponding to b-turn, loop, helical motifs in proteins as a probe of ligand-receptor and ligand-enzyme molecular interactions. Chapter 2 addresses new facets of the medicinal chemistry of the important anticancer drug Taxol® (paclitaxel). Chapter 3 relates an account of the search for new drugs for the treatment of malaria based on the natural product artemisinin. Chapter 4 applies computational chemistry to the evaluation of compound libraries for biological testing. Chapter 5 describes the construction of a 3-dimensional molecular model of the human thrombin receptor, the first protease-activated G-protein coupled receptor (PAR-1), as a means to explore the intermolecular contacts involved in agonist peptide recognition. Finally, Chapter 6 describes the research conducted at Merck on inhibitors of farnesyl transferase as a potential treatment for human cancers.

This volume contains eight chapters that present both new and reviewed information fundamental to a clear understanding of lipid catabolism and transport at the molecular level. Three-dimensional structures of important serum lipoproteins, apolipoproteins, and lipases, utilizing X-ray data when available, are emphasized, and an attempt is made to relate structures to function. - Amphipathic helix - Apolipoprotein E - Lipophorin - Structure of serum albumin - Lipid binding proteins - Apolipoprotein B - Low-density lipoprotein

Advances in Triazole Chemistry reviews the ever-widening scope of triazole chemistry. Triazole is an exceptional structural motif with a range of applications across scientific disciplines, including materials science, organocatalysis, agrochemicals, and medicinal chemistry. These many applications of different classes of triazoles have promoted the development of a range of synthetic strategies over the past few years, which are presented here along with recent and ecofriendly methods for the synthesis of all types of triazoles. The book also reviews the recent notable applications in chemical ligation, peptidomimetics, carbohydrate chemistry, nanotechnology, and polymer and materials science. This comprehensive resource is ideal for researchers using triazoles in various disciplines, as well as chemists working in the pharmaceutical, polymer, and agrochemical industries. - Includes coverage of the role triazoles play in DNA synthesis - Features comprehensive information on 1,2,3-triazoles and 1,2,4-triazoles and their subclasses, synthesis, and applications - Serves as an ideal reference for researchers and chemists interested in using triazole chemistry for functionalization, modification, and development of target products

In this compilation, the authors begin by highlighting the recent developments in asymmetric 1,4- and 1,2- additions to α, β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds. The recent finding of Cu (I)-catalyzed asymmetric 1,2-addition of Grignard reagents to α, β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds, as well as aromatic ketones, has categorically revolutionized catalytic asymmetric reactions. This compilation also aims to use the well-known coordination preference of zinc in phthalocyanine and porphyrin ligands in correlation with supramolecular systems. The light-absorption process in dye-sensitized solar cells is studied using the time-dependent density functional theory. In recent years, a series of investigations on detonation wave formation in acetylene have been published. In these studies, it was shown that the formation of detonation proceeds entirely due to the energy released during the condensation of carbon nanoparticles during the growth of poly-aromatic hydrocarbons. The results of these studies are summarized and practical applications are discussed. The authors discuss aromatic amines, derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons containing an amino group/an amine group/nitrogen atom in their structures. These compounds represent one of the most important classes of industrial and environmental chemicals. Three groups have been studied: monocyclic, polycyclic, and heterocyclic aromatic amines, which are used as intermediates in azo dye manufacturing, pigments, drugs, antibiotics, antidepressants, pesticides, and other industrial products. In the closing study, the GC-MS/MS method has been developed for the determination and quantification of 35 multiclass pesticide residues in chili samples. Pesticides were selected from different families including organochlorines, organophosphorus, carbamates, pyrethroids, triazines, triazoles, and pyrazoles. The QuEChERS-dSPE method was used for the extraction of pesticide residue.

Advances in Quantum Chemistry presents surveys of current developments in this rapidly developing field that falls between the historically established areas of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. With invited reviews written by leading international researchers, each presenting new results, it provides a single vehicle for following progress in this interdisciplinary area. This Volume and Volume 39 will be thematic volumes based on the proceedings of the Fifth European Workshop on Quantum Systems in Chemistry and Physics which was held April 13-18, 2000, in Uppsala, Sweden. We published the proceedings from a previous meeting in 1998. See Volumes 31 and 32.
