Often considered the lowest depth to which cinema can plummet, the rape-revenge film is broadly dismissed as fundamentally exploitative and sensational, catering only to a demented, regressive demographic. This second edition, ten years after the first, continues the assessment of these films and the discourse they provoke. Included is a new chapter about women-directed rape-revenge films, a phenomenon that--revitalized since #MeToo exploded in late 2017--is a filmmaking tradition with a history that transcends a contemporary context. Featuring both famous and unknown movies, controversial and widely celebrated filmmakers, as well as rape-revenge cinema from around the world, this revised edition demonstrates that diverse and often contradictory treatments of sexual violence exist simultaneously.

This is a story about a city. As with all others, it's a place of violence. There are murderers, and they live among us. This is also a tale about a couple -- sometimes friends, occasionally lovers, but always partners. Dan and Olivia are fighting modern battles; the ones parents have over a lack of money, time or peace. An escalating serial killer terrifies the streets and homes. The body count rises as their relationship crumbles. Society reveals its dark side, and no one is safe. Dan and Olivia experience this first-hand as danger closes in. Will Abel's reign of terror ever end? Who will live, and who will die? What readers are saying about Abel's Revenge: "A thrilling ride told with humour." "Pure entertainment." "Cain killed Abel, and he was forgotten. Now he's back and no one's safe." " After five short chapters, I'd said wow, raised my eyebrows, and laughed out loud twice." "Wow, don't miss this." I thought about this book for days after I'd digested the final few pages...Jim Ody, author of Lost Connections An eye-opening, honest and brutal story, Fifty Years of Fear is a cleverly written book. As always, Ross Greenwood draws you in until you're completely invested with the characters... Tara Lyons, bestselling author of the DI Hamilton series. The more I read, the more I wanted to read. There were a lot of nice lines throughout, and the humour took the edge off the awful things that happened... Tony Forder, author of Bad to the Bone. An unmissable, heart-wrenching thriller... Netta Newbound, top-selling author of The Watcher Told with such insight and depth, the characters felt very real to me and Vinnie, one of the two brothers, ended up breaking my heart! ... Jane E James, author of haunting thriller, The Crying Boy. This is one of those books that long after I have forgotten the details I will still remember how it made me feel. It's a much used phrase, but I feel like I've been on an emotional rollercoaster and need a wee bit of recovery time. This is the first time I have read anything from Ross Greenwood and was impressed by his storytelling and the way the characters, particularly Vinnie, felt so real. This wasn't always comfortable to read but it is well worth enduring the discomfort for what is a cleverly constructed piece of writing. Highly recommended. Right from the first chapter, I was hooked. This is the first book I have read by Ross Greenwood and I loved his style of writing; the story flows easily and you are drawn in by his characters. My first read of Ross Greenwood I must say I really enjoy his writing style. It flows along beautifully. I thoroughly enjoyed this gripping tale of misfortune and adversary. Ross Greenwood's characters are convincingly-drawn and the story held me in its grip the whole way through. A fantastic read with brilliant characters. I really felt for Vinnie. It had me gripped from start to finish. 5*. Highly recommended.

"I have no desire whatever to reform myself. My only desire is to reform people who try to reform me. And I believe that the only way to reform people is to kill 'em. My motto is, Rob em all, Rape em all and Kill em all." - Carl Panzram In 1902, at the age of 11, Carl Panzram broke into a neighbour's home and stole some apples, a pie, and a revolver. As a frequent troublemaker, the court decided to make an example of him and placed him into the care of the Minnesota State Reform School. During his two-year detention, Carl was repeatedly beaten, tortured, humiliated and raped by the school staff. At 15-years old, Carl enlisted in the army by lying about his age but his career was short-lived. He was dishonourably discharged for stealing army supplies and was sent to military prison. The brutal prison system sculpted Carl into the man that he would remain for the rest of his life. He hated the whole of mankind and wanted revenge. When Carl left prison in 1910, he set out to rob, burn, rape and kill as many people as he could, for as long as he could. His campaign of terror could finally begin and nothing could stand in his way. Kill 'Em All is a chilling and gripping account of one of the most brutal and gruesome true crime stories in American history. Ryan Green's riveting narrative draws the reader into the real-live horror experienced by the victims and has all the elements of a classic thriller. New York Times bestselling author Tami Hoag returns with a thriller that begins with a shocking crime scene you’ll never forget and follows two relentless detectives on a manhunt that ends in a chilling confrontation with the essence of human evil. It was a crime so brutal, it changed the lives of even the most hardened homicide cops. The Haas family murders left a scar on the community nothing can erase, but everyone agrees that convicting the killer, Karl Dahl, is a start. Only Judge Carey Moore seems to be standing in the way. Her ruling that Dahl’s prior criminal record is inadmissible raises a public outcry—and puts the judge in grave danger. When an unknown assailant attacks Judge Moore in a parking garage, two of Minneapolis’ s top cops are called upon to solve the crime and keep the judge from further harm. Detective Sam Kovac is as hard-boiled as they come, and his wisecracking partner, Nikki Liska, isn’t far behind. Neither one wants to be on this case, but when Karl Dahl escapes from custody, everything changes, and a seemingly straightforward case cartwheels out of control. The stakes go even higher when the judge is kidnapped—snatched out of her own bed even as the police sit outside, watching her house. Now Kovac and Liska must navigate through a maze of suspects that includes the stepson of a murder victim, a husband with a secret life, and a rogue cop looking for revenge where the justice system failed. With no time to spare, the detectives are pulled down a strange dark trail of smoke and mirrors, where no one is who they seem and everyone is guilty of Prior Bad Acts.

A rogue reporter investigates a grisly multiple murder in Newark, NJ, in this Shamus and Nero Award–winning mystery series debut. Four bodies, each with a single bullet wound in the back of the head, stacked like cordwood in a weed-choked vacant lot: That’s the front-page news facing Carter Ross, investigative reporter with the Newark Eagle-Examiner. Immediately dispatched to the scene, Carter learns that the four victims—an exotic dancer, a drug dealer, a hustler, and a mama’s boy—came from different parts of the city and didn’t seem to know one another. The police, eager to calm jittery residents, leak a theory that the murders are revenge for a bar stickup, and Carter’s paper, hungry for a scoop, hastily prints it. Carter doesn’t come from the streets, but he understands a thing or two about Newark’s neighborhoods. And he knows there are no quick answers when dealing with a crime like this. Determined to uncover the true story, he enlists the aide of Tina Thompson, the paper’s city editor, to run interference at the office; Tommy Hernandez, the paper’s intern, to help him with legwork on the streets; and Tynesha Dales, a local stripper, to take him to Newark’s underside. It turns out that the four victims have one connection after all, and this knowledge will put Carter on the path of one very ambitious killer.
