Excerpt from A New Messiah The trees whined drearily as the breeze increased and the withered foliage came fluttering down, sometimes in single twirling spots of yellow, bronze, or brown; sometimes tumultuously when the Angel of Death that was in the frosty air breathed on it as he passed. Many times a belated chestnut frond would let go its grip, and hurtle awkwardly across the twilight sky, like a bat out for his first flight, and blinded by the last of the evening afterglow. And always the wind droned most lonesomely through the waving branches aloft, barer by every blast, and, swirling round the great trunks beneath, rustled the dying leaves. A young fellow and a young girl strolled to and fro on the shaven sward. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Messiah This then is our theme - the Jewish Messiah. Can any won der at the interest we feel in it, or at the wish we have to Speak of it worthily, and to present it in a form that will command notice and deserve respect? For years we have pondered on it; we have feared to touch a theme so sacred, so awe-inspiring, so full of immortal hope to man. Like Moses, we put off our shoes as we approach it, for we know full well that we stand on holy ground. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Jesus the Messiah When the author of the Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah was taken away in the spring of this year from the labours and studies which he loved, he had already had under consideration the expediency of publishing an abridged edition of his larger work, such as should throw it open to a wider circle of readers. That abridgment has now been carried out, it is hoped, upon the lines which he would have desired. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The New Messiah and the Journey of the SoulRegulated by the law Of growth of expres sion on each planet, at the time of perihelion there is a greater growth. A solar cycle is a period Of years. Corresponding to a certain plane tary growth in our solar system, there is a Mes sianic period when the Great Lords Of Life appear on the earth. These are the sons Of the sun, called Sons of God. You remember Jesus says: I am a Son of God (not saying which sun he came from). The solar cycles are the great Messianic periods when the great Christs appear; the lunar cycles are the lesser periods in which the lesser Messiahs, who are teachers, avatars, Buddhas and prophets, appear. The lesser Messiahs always precede the great Christs. Each lesser Messiah bears one special attribute of which the great Messiahs are the culmination.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Messiah in Moses and the Prophets From the earliest periods a belief has prevailed among Jews and Gentiles, that in one mode or another the Supreme Being has appeared visibly on earth In the Eastern World, Divine incarnations are taught in the Brahminical and other systems. For the origin of such a belief we must undoubtedly recur to the Divine appearances recorded in Moses and the prophets. Such visible appearances and the doctrine of the incarnation are taught in the Hebrew as well as in the Christian Scriptures. Excerpt from The Messiah of the Gospels In the autumn of 1886 the volume entitled Messianic Prophecy was published as the first of a series of volumes upon the Messianic Ideal. As was stated in the Preface to that volume: "It treats of Prophecy in general, of Messianic Prophecy in particular, and then traces the development of the Messianic idea in the Old Testament, concluding with a summary of the ideal therein unfolded. It will remain for a second volume to show how far this ideal has been fulfilled by the first advent of the Messiah, and how far it remained unfulfilled and was taken up into New Testament Prophecy and carried on to a higher stage of development. A third volume should trace the history of the Messianic ideal in the Christian Church, and show its importance in the development of Christian doctrine." It was my intention at that time to publish the second volume of the series a short time after the first. The material had already been gathered and it was put in the form of a volume in the summer of 1888. But the Revision movement in the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. made it a duty to take my share in that great ecclesiastical struggle. Some of the fruits of these labors appeared in the volumes, Whither, 1889; and How Shall We Revise, 1890. The Revision movement had as its sequel a long struggle against ecclesiastical domination and in behalf of the right of Biblical Criticism and of the fountains of authority in Religion.
