Excerpt from A Letter From a Gentleman in Town to His Friend in the Country, Recommending the Necessity of Frugality To mention the various Follies, Vices, and Corruptions peculiar to thefe T; mes would exceed the Length of a Letter; and indeed they are become {0 notorious, that there is little Occafion to enumerate them, their unhappy Effects being already, but too {enfibly felt, and greatly lamented alfo, by every good Man. Ixthall therefore fay lit tle more of them; but, on the contrary confine the Subject of this Epiltle chie y to, one Virtue, which, if it were once become fafhionable, could not fail of obtaining the molt defireable E 'eets; and would bid fair to root out many of thofe baneful Weeds that infef't this Land; the Virtue I mean, is an honeft frugali'i'y. I hope, my dear Sir, from the F riend thip that has long fubfifted between us, you will pardon me, when I tell you, that this is a Virtue which, if added to the many 0 thers you are happily po 'efs'd of, could not fail of preferving you from many In conveniencies, and of feenring to you, that amiable Character to which you are already fo jufily intitled.
