Abstract: A guidebook to the grant-making process identifies sources of funding in public and private organizations and presents techniques for skillful presentation of grant proposals. General sources of information for all granting sectors--government, private foundations, business and industry--are reviewed. Other information resources include libraries, institutional grants offices, subscription information services, workshops, institutes and the news media. Aspects of the preapplication, application and postapplication procedures are described. Such topics as indirect and direct costs, equipment, budget justification, patents, matching funds, affirmative action, the project description, etc., are discussed. Grant applicants' questions concerning what to do before applying to a funding organization, how to write competitive proposals, and how grants are awarded are addressed.
