A Collection of Daily Thoughts The word thought generally refers to any mental or intellectual activity involving an individual's subjective consciousness. It can refer either to the act of thinking or the resulting ideas or arrangements of ideas. Over the past few years, I've put my thoughts down on paper and shared them with family and friends. Some said to me "it's too long," some said to me "I've heard that before," and some said nothing, as if my thoughts were delivered and had fallen into a black hole. On the other hand, there were those who cheered me on and encouraged me to keep distributing my thoughts and consider some day writing a book. What Do You Think about It is a labor-of-love collection of my best thirty-one weekly thoughts (plus two bonus thoughts because I couldn't decide on just 31) for your daily preview. In addition, you can take an active part in my literary endeavor by writing down your thoughts at the end of each chapter. One difference between humans and other animals is our ability to think, process our thoughts, and make life-changing decisions on the results. As you read and hopefully enjoy this book of daily thoughts, do your best to retain the messages intended in each thought. It's not really our efforts that define us; it's our ability to open our minds and hearts to the depths of our true thoughts and honest feelings. Paracelsus, renaissance period physician, chemist, and surgeon, wrote, "Thoughts are free and subject to no rule. On them rest the freedom of a man and they tower above the light of nature . . . create a new heaven, a new firmament, a new source of energy from which new art flows." This book represents a small piece of my heaven, my new firmament, my new source of energy from which my new art will flow. I hope you enjoy all my thoughts, but I don't expect you will just sail away on a literary cruise navigated by everything I've written. So I've provided space at the end of each chapter for your thoughts on each topic. Hence the title What Do You Think about It. Bon voyage!

My brain never seems to turn off. It is in constant creative mode. Story/script ideas, cartoons, thoughts, anecdotes, lyrics, melodies. it's a never ending brain explosion. And I have to have some kind of noise stimulus around me just to try and distract me because if I try to quiet it, the silence is deafening. That is why I decided to put together this book as a cathartic release, a spring cleaning (so to speak) of my brain just to make room for the next explosion. Enjoy the garage sale that is my mind and I hope you find something you can fill your head with. - Dave Shelton About the Author: Dave Shelton is a film/TV writer/director/cartoonist/voice actor living in Los Angeles with his fiance Tami Zorge and multitudes of characters from his brain. "A collection of our thoughts," by Kyle Kostic, is a riveting chronicle of a young man's life as he sees it through the many facets of his persona. These stories take a deep yet guileless look at a man's inner thoughts as a father, a husband, a friend, and a young man in today's society... that in turn effect his viewpoint on life, love, and the world in which we live. As you take this journey you will find that we all share in the same joys, sorrows, hopes, and fears. You will be inspired by his continual progression even through the struggles that he faces daily. You will also discover that the same strength and courage he uses to overcome those struggles, is something that lies within us all. --Christopher C. Wallace/Columbus, GA

This collection of thoughts from artists and thinkers of the past and present has been lovingly gathered over many years in the personal journals of the artist Astrid Fitzgerald and reveals something of the mystery in which creativity finds its way from the energies of the cosmos into the imagination and faculties of the individual artist and eventually into the solitude of the studio and finally into a work of art. From the reports of mystics to the observations of scientists, these passages have been arranged in this volume to provide brief glimpses into the recesses of artistic being, into the tentative formations in consciousness, the first glimmers of imagination, the distinctive faculties of the creative mind, and the tensions of artistic expression in the workshop and the creative life. Fitzgerald's great contribution has been to gather into a meaningful collection the words of 2,500 years of genius as a resource and inspiration for all those who would break out of creative limitations and take a bold step into the future. Illustrated with the art of the author and others. CONTENTS: The Ground of Artistic Being The Field of Creative Play The Universal Qualities and Forces of Creativity The Flowering of Creative Energy The Faculties of Creative Expression The Nature of the Calling The Ideals of Artistic Expression Infinite Forms of Expression The Dynamics of Creative Work The Experience of the Creative Life Bibliography and Index of Authors
