In a region of southern Italy that is known as Calabria, far south of Naples, there is a remote town by the name of Ardore. Its history dates back to ancient Greece; and, in over 2,800 years, a succession of conquerors did little to improve the lives of its people. In the mid-1600's, Antonio Bova saw the sale of the town as a feudal estate with an absentee landlord. By the mid-1700's his family had grown and acquired productive agricultural lands. Ardore supported the unification of Italy in 1860, but rebelled when a cholera epidemic ravaged the town. Archpriest Giuseppe Bova rose to a leading role in the town as pastor of the "mother church" and eventually became a bishop. And, Joseph Pasquale Bova was one of the earliest of the massive wave of Italian immigrants that came to America. In exploring the experiences of seven generations of the Bova Family, we learn how their lives were impacted by the history of Ardore and that of Italy.

Take a journey through the stories of eleven generations of ancestors and descendants of Cuff Condol/Congdon, a Native American slave. The children and grandchildren of Cuff spread across the landscape of Connecticut into New York and Ohio. This is a chronicle of their fight for liberty and citizenship in America. The web of kinship is expansive. They define what nations, communities, groups, and families that they belong to. Their voices and words are utilized in an effort to allow them to speak to us. It is an American story including African, European, Jewish, and Chinese American ancestors. Genealogy, history, and social activism all play a role in their telling of this tale. So, come and take the journey! ***This book is the Grand Prize Winner of the Annual Literary Awards Contest of the Connecticut Society of Genealogists!***

For public and school libraries, this resource reflects recent changes in Library of Congress subject headings and authority files, and provides bilingual information essential to reference librarians and catalogers serving Spanish speakers. Libraries must provide better access to their collections for all users, including Spanish-language materials. The American Library Association has recognized this increasing need. Subject Headings for School and Public Libraries: Bilingual Fourth Edition is the only resource available that provides both authorized and reference entries in English and Spanish. A first-check source for the most frequently used headings needed in school and public libraries, this book incorporates thousands of new and revised entries to assist in applying LCSH and CSH headings. Of the approximately 30,000 headings listed, most include cross-references, and all of the cross-reference terms are translated. MARC21 tags are included for all authorized entries to simplify entering them into computerized catalogs, while indexes to all headings and free-floating subdivisions are provided in translation from Spanish to English. This book gives librarians access to accurate translations of the subject terms printed in books published and cataloged in English-speaking countries—invaluable information in settings with Spanish-speaking patrons.
