This book contains one thousand fixed response questions. It is designed for students of paediatric dentistry who want to prepare for a certifying test or similar examination. Most of those tests use fixed response questions. This book can help students overcome some of the common problems candidates have with MRQ tests. Even as a well-prepared and successful medical student, you likely will not be able to show how good you are in your first, or even second try at a comprehensive fixed response test. There is a good reason for this. Fixed response questions are a blunt instrument. They deny collaboration, reward speed and punish nuance. Unlike what one has become accustomed to in medical school: mentorship, caution against haste, and reward for insight. Without a lot of experience in fixed response tests, you are like a seasoned footballer who is about to be dropped into a rugby scrum. This book will help you get through it. It can be used for quick revision of various topics namely caries epidemiology, prevention and management; pulp therapy; tooth restoration; dental materials; oral medicine; traumatic dental injury; pain and behaviour management; tooth anatomy and physiology; eruption and eruption disorders; and general dentistry for children. There are three basic kinds of fixed-response questions in the book: True/False Questions, Multiple Choice Questions and Multiple Response Questions. The introduction section of the book provides readers with 10 quick guides on how to make yourself familiar with the vast material in the book. At the end of the book are the answers to the questions as well as a blank answer sheet which you could use during your personal studies. The book shall be revised every three years to ensure it addresses contemporary issues in paediatric dentistry as well as ensure it contains information on current concepts in paediatric dentistry.

Guiding patient behavior is as important as ever for the practicing dentist, and the behavior of pediatric patients is perhaps the most challenging to manage. Drs. Wright and Kupietzky here update Dr. Wright’s classic work on managing pediatric dental patients. Behavior Management in Dentistry for Children,2nd Edition, has been entirely rewritten and includes the latest and most effective management strategies from an international team of experts in the field. The book addresses the influence of family and parenting styles on children’s behavior and the factors that determine how children behave in the dental office. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological management techniques are described in depth, as are techniques for dealing with special needs patients. Clinical scenarios are described throughout the book, with practical application of the taught principles. The final part of the book covers the dental environment—training office personnel to manage children’s behavior, practical considerations for behavior guidance, and the effects of the physical dental office environment. Behavior Management in Dentistry for Children,2nd Edition, is ideal for pediatric residents, dental students, and practicing dentists who see children on a regular basis.

This collaborative work provides a detailed snapshot of child oral health in Australia. In doing so, it describes the levels of dental caries and its components, dental fluorosis and other oral health conditions and how they vary by social characteristics. It also describes protective factors such as toothbrushing, the use of fluoridated toothpastes and making dental visits. The 2012–14 National Child Oral Health Study (NCOHS) was a cross-sectional study of the child population aged 5 to 14 years in Australia. A total of 24,664 children from 841 participating schools completed the study. The study sample was selected in a complex multistage, stratified sampling design. Sophisticated weighting procedure was employed to adjust for variations in probabilities of selection and response rates. Therefore, this report presents estimates as representative of child oral health in Australia. Information was collected via a parental questionnaire and a detailed dental examination by trained dental professionals.

Medical education has grown expeditiously in the last decade, triggered by innovations in educational approaches, such as problem-based learning (PBL) and community-based education (CBE). This had led to medical schools establishing departments for medical education and developing special introductory courses for undergraduate curricula. As a result, an enormous amount of literature is now available for teachers and medical educators, but only a limited amount of medical education material is aimed directly at at students. The International Handbook of Medical Education takes the lead by giving students access to basic medical education, knowledge and skills, presented in a simple and interactive format. The Handbook provides students with a tool to guide them on the road to success during their academic lives and beyond by helping to improve study skills, such as reading, writing, searching and research, and giving students essential information on assessment skills, such as answering multiple-choice questions and preparing for objective structured clinical examination. With this handbook, students will develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will advance their care
