The volume focuses on novel and effective biological and biotechnological methods for managing major plant parasitic nematodes in economically important agricultural crops. Nematodes develop a wide variety of interactions with soil microbes and host plants, and cause enormous losses in crop yields equivalent to around USD 173 billion annually. In view of growing concern for pesticide contamination in crops, coupled with ban on several efficacious pesticides, and increasing demand for organic foods, the biological and biotechnological approaches offer a good alternative to chemicals for managing nematode infestations in agricultural crops. The book embodies twenty-two chapters which are arranged in two groups. The first group covers different novel methods of nematode management such as biotechnological, biopesticides, microbial consortia, host resistance, omics technology, transgenics, nano-nematicides, nano-diagnosis, etc. The second groups of chapters describe important nematode problems in major crops such as cereals, vegetables, pulses, spices, wood yielding conifers, etc. Overall, the book collates the latest information on above topics and offers practical solutions to the limitations and challenges in the existing management technologies. This book is of interest and serves up-to-date and elaborated information to agriculture researchers, teachers, scientists, under-graduates, post-graduates, plant nematologists, plant pathologists, plant protectionists, agronomists, horticulturalists, helminthologists, extension workers, and NGOs.

Building on the extremely successful and popular Russell’s Soil Conditions and Plant Growth, Wiley-Blackwell is pleased to publish this completely revised and updated edition of the soil science classic. Covering all aspects of the interactions between plant and soil, Peter Gregory and Stephen Nortcliff, along with their team of internationally-known and respected authors, provide essential reading for all students and professionals studying and working in agriculture and soil science. Subject areas covered range from crop science and genetics; soil fertility and organic matter; nitrogen and phosphoros cycles and their management; properties and management of plant nutrients; water and the soil physical environment and its management; plants and change processes in soils; management of the soil/plant system; and new challenges including food, energy and water security in a changing environment. Providing a very timely account on how better to understand and manage the many interactions that occur between soils and plants, Soil Conditions and Plant Growth is sure to become the book of choice - as a recommended text for students and as an invaluable reference for those working or entering into the industry. An essential purchase for all universities and research establishments where agricultural, soil, and environmental sciences are studied and taught.

This new volume explores the field of microbial biostimulants, a new and emerging field of plant study that emphasizes the benefit of microbes for plants. Microbial biostimulants can have a positive influence on plant health and growth, enhancing agricultural yield and improving resistance to negative environmental changes with zero harmful discharges. This book, Microbial Biostimulants: Biorational Pesticides for Management of Plant Pathogens, explores how microbial-based biopesticides can be used for managing pests and plant diseases as well as for the promotion of growth. It looks at the advantages of employing microbial biostimulants over other pest and disease control methods. It also looks at the application of microbial biostimulants as a response to the modern agricultural need for increased productivity and plant health. This book brings together an extensive collection of information on beneficial microorganisms, including newly introduced microorganisms, their biological activities and specificity, resistance mechanisms to pests, formulation, application in agricultural practices, etc. Key features: Provides a roadmap for using microbial biostimulant practices for pest and disease control as a sustainable approach in agriculture Covers the essential aspects of biorational lines for crop stress management Looks at the use of microbial biostimulants for management of specific diseases, including root-knot disease, various soil-borne diseases, etc. Considers the role of rhizobacteria in plant disease management Microbial Biostimulants: Biorational Pesticides for Management of Plant Pathogens will be extremely useful for students, academicians, researchers, and policymakers in the field of food security and diverse disciplines of agricultural sciences.
