"This publication is one of a series of analytical Reports issued by the Population and Social Development Section of the Social Development Division at the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). It aims to deepen knowledge of the interrelation between population and development issues. The fourth edition of this Report is issued as one of the work programme activities of the Population and Social Development Section. These activities stress the importance to treat youth as a distinct sociodemographic group that needs to be targeted by specific national policies."--Publisher's description.

The Handbook of Media and Culture in the Middle East The Handbook of Media and Culture in the Middle East is an invaluable resource for anyone seeking to understand the profound and complex changes shaping the 21st century. With trans-regional contributions from established and emerging scholars, this ground-breaking volume offers conceptual essays and in-depth chapters that present rich analyses grounded in historical and geopolitical contexts, as well as key theory and empirical research. Rather than viewing the Middle East as a monolithic culture, this Handbook examines the diverse and multi-local characteristics of the region’s knowledge production, dynamic media, and rich cultures. It addresses a wide range of topics, including the evolving mainstream and alternative media, competing histories in the region, and pressing socio-economic and media debates. Additionally, the Handbook explores the impact of regional and international politics on Middle Eastern cultures and media. Designed to serve as a foundation for the next era of research in the field, The Handbook of Media and Culture in the Middle East is essential reading for all academics, scholars, and media practitioners. Its comprehensive scope makes it an excellent primary or supplementary textbook for undergraduate or graduate courses in global studies, media and communication, journalism, anthropology, sociology, economics, political science, and history.

"In September 2011, the Secretary-General requested Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs and the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) "to establish a core group of dedicated senior technical experts to coordinate system-wide preparations on ongoing efforts and propose a unified vision and road map for the definition of a United Nations development agenda post-2015, in consultation with all stakeholders." As a result of this request, the United Nations System Task Team on the Post-2015 United Nations Development Agenda (UNTT) was established and launched in January 2012. UNTT is co-chaired by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and UNDP, and is composed of more than 60 entities of the United Nations system, including all the Regional Commissions. Its terms of reference include the formulation of a system-wide vision and road map to contribute to the global debate on the post-2015 United Nations development agenda. In June 2012, UNTT issued a report to the Secretary-General entitled "Realizing the Future We Want for All". The report identifies a future vision based on the core values of human rights, equality and sustainability, and proposes to reorganize a post-MDG framework along four dimensions: (i) inclusive social development; (ii) inclusive economic development, (iii) environmental sustainability, and (iv) peace and security. The report concludes by stressing the need to develop a post-2015 agenda that responds to people's aspirations through "clear, easy-to communicate goals that will help guide coherent policy action at the global, regional and national levels." The present report is designed to make a regional contribution to that global policy debate, including by identifying practical difficulties in achieving such policy coherence at different levels."--Publisher's description.

The dominant powers in world energy geopolitics have radically changed in last couple of decades due to the increased demand for natural energy resources (i.e., coal and oil). Because of these power shifts, the economics of energy has become much more entangled in international relations. Economic Dynamics of Global Energy Geopolitics provides emerging research exploring the theoretical and practical aspects of the geo-economics of energy resources and how this affects countries’ economies. It also explores the implementation of energy supply and demand in world markets. Featuring coverage on a broad range of topics such as socio-economics, supply/demand fluctuations, and foreign direct investment, this book is ideally designed for engineers, economists, academicians, researchers, policymakers, and graduate-level students seeking current research on the role of economics and policy in energy geopolitics.
