Bill and Billy are having marital problems but these pall when compared to the problems they have to face from their next door neighbour. If that wasn’t enough, there is the general alarm put out to be on the alert for a serial murderer thought to be in the district. In the heavy night of the Mornington countryside, their weekender cottage offers scant protection from what is determined to befall them from the outside and what is determined to torment them from the inside. It is not as if they find themselves living in some scripted fiction where the fear comes driving at them intermittently but can be pulled back from with a flick of a light switch. No, this night they find themselves within the clutches of an evil that is constant, unharboured and unanchored. This night the pretend-fear becomes the real fear… the production gallops towards reality. It is difficult to tell who is who, or what is what. The only thing Bill and Billy – and anyone else – know is that all becomes very real dead mad.

In early twentieth-century U.S. culture, sex sold. While known mainly for its social reforms, the Progressive Era was also obsessed with prostitution, sexuality, and the staging of women’s changing roles in the modern era. By the 1910s, plays about prostitution (or “brothel dramas”) had inundated Broadway, where they sometimes became long-running hits and other times sparked fiery obscenity debates. In Sex for Sale, Katie N. Johnson recovers six of these plays, presenting them with astute cultural analysis, photographs, and production histories. The result is a new history of U.S. theatre that reveals the brothel drama’s crucial role in shaping attitudes toward sexuality, birth control, immigration, urbanization, and women’s work. The volume includes the work of major figures including Eugene O’Neill, John Reed, Rachel Crothers, and Elizabeth Robins. Now largely forgotten and some previously unpublished, these plays were among the most celebrated and debated productions of their day. Together, their portrayals of commercialized vice, drug addiction, poverty, white slavery, and interracial desire reveal the Progressive Era’s fascination with the underworld and the theatre’s power to regulate sexuality. Additional plays, commentary, and teaching materials are available at brotheldrama.lib.miamioh.edu. Plays included: Ourselves (1913) by Rachel Crothers The Web (1913) by Eugene O’Neill My Little Sister (1913) by Elizabeth Robins Moondown (1915) by John Reed Cocaine (1916) by Pendleton King A Shanghai Cinderella (renamed East is West, 1918) by Samuel Shipman and John B. Hymer

People ascribe different origins to their fairy tales. Many believe that fairies are the spirits of the dead. Often their origin is described as divine. The majority of fairy tales are the product of European folklore, the most famous being the tales of the "little people" or leprechauns of Celtic or Saxon legend. When a mysterious medallion is unearthed during an archaeological dig in Ireland, the new discovery sets an ancient and evil plan in motion bringing together six strangers in a race against time, a race against discovery, a race against extinction. The mystery and intrigue continue to escalate as each comes closer to knowing the truth about the fabled Golden Valley and whether or not leprechauns do really exist. With the evil and ruthless billionaire, Martin Gaft hot on the trail of discovery, the family that was sworn to protect the ancient secret of Ireland's precious Golden Valley must strive to continue hiding the truth. Even if it means sacrificing their lives to do it.
