I first met M.A Sheikh in the late nineteen seventies as my interest in music grew beyond that of mere appreciation. I was looking for people who could help in developing my taste further and on being recommended I went to visit M. A Sheikh who had an office in the basement of Radio Pakistan Lahore. With regular visits I came to know of the setting up of the Classical Music Cell and its dramatic downturn in fortune with the change of government. The Classical Music Research Cell had been shut down after martial law had been imposed in nineteen seventy seven as an unnecessary drain on the national expenditure. Since the hired premises had to be vacated the question remained as to what was to become of the music, manuscripts, books and some equipment which had been collected so assiduously in the past year. It was lugged from one premise to another till finally a more permanent place in the basement of the Lahore Radio Station was settled for. During this series of very grave crises a small team maneuvered to ward off all the palpable threats. These few individuals had as if almost vowed not to let the Cell be closed down or fall in UN deserving hands. Principally through M.A.Sheikh’s efforts it managed to survive. I gradually came to appreciate the work being done by M.A Sheikh who really toiled for years in conditions which were far from ideal to save the collection of recorded material and the many rare and invaluable manuscripts which had been collected over time. .

Doctor Who is the world's longest-running science fiction television series, and has had children hiding behind sofa's since it was first broadcast in 1963. Eleven actors have played the famous Time Lord, starting with William Hartnell, and it has been a career landmark for all of them. Indeed, no other role in television history is as iconic, demanding, or as anticipated by its legions of fans as that of the famous time traveller with two hearts. Find out: * Who was a bouncer for The Rolling Stones before taking control of the Tardis. * Who was nearly blown up in the Second World War aboard HMS Hood. * Who had a fondness for woolly hats and had a grandson who would become Harry Potter's nemesis. * Who played a transvestite barmaid before becoming a Doctor Who heart-throb. Go back in time and read the human story behind a TV legend.

"The Happiest Who's Who Ever Written" -Original advertising slogan for book in 1954. Who's Who in Oz is an illustrated index of nearly every character that ever appeared in the first 39 Oz books. Who's Who in Oz is Wonderful in its scope and reach; author, Jack Snow, did a remarkable job gathering these characters together and his descriptions or as he calls them " informal introductions to over six hundred and thirty Oz characters- people, animals, and creatures- with hints on the parts they play in the thirty-nine Oz books" show a foremost Oz scholar, and excellent writer himself, at work. Each character description also has a reference telling you the first page on which this character appeared, and in which Oz book. There are many black and white illustrations, by John R. Neill, Frank Kramer and "Dirk", that give us a delightful glimpse into the truly amazing, imaginative world of OZ.
