MRI provides the best means of imaging the bone marrow directly and of non-invasively assessing its composition. Most ingested foreign bodies pass through the gastrointestinal tract without a problem. As with the introduction of x -ray computed tomography, much of the initial development of magnetic resonance applications tended to focus on the central nervous system.
