Five masterpieces of fin de siecle erotica by a true literary disciple of the Marquis de Sade. These stories deal with the young and beautiful, married and unmarried, lovers and mistresses, and the perverse pranks of the aristocracy and bourgeoisie, all told in a highly polished style enhanced by a soupcon of the bizarre.

Newly revised and updated, this classic manifesto is “a foundational text for anyone hoping to understand transgender politics and culture in the U.S. today” (NPR) A landmark of trans and feminist nonfiction, Whipping Girl is Julia Serano’s indispensable account of what it means to be a transgender woman in a world that consistently derides and belittles anything feminine. In a series of incisive essays, Serano draws on gender theory, her training as a biologist, her career in queer activism, and her own experiences before and after her gender transition to examine the deep connections between sexism and transphobia. She coins the term transmisogyny to describe the specific discrimination trans women face—and she shows how, in a world where masculinity is seen as unquestionably superior to femininity, transgender women’s very existence becomes a threat to the established gender hierarchy. Now updated with a new afterword on the contemporary anti-trans backlash, Whipping Girl makes the case that today's feminists and transgender activists must work to embrace and empower femininity—in all of its wondrous forms—and to make the world safe and just for people of all genders and sexualities.

There wasn't much I wanted out of life but having my bakery succeed, being able to continue doing what I loved to do, and finding a woman who could make me feel whole. And then the moment she walked into my bakery, I knew there would be no other for me.For months, I watched her sit at that little table in the corner and read. For months, I thought of a million different things I wanted to say to her.I might not have stalked her, but I sure as hell wanted to. I thought about it. Finding more out about Zara, and all the things I wanted to do to her, had become an obsession. Zara was gorgeous and curvy ... exactly the type of woman I fantasized about having by my side. But finding the courage to man up and go after what I wanted-her-was harder than I thought. I guess when you find the perfect person for you, the idea of being rejected could turn anyone into a coward.Until one day I wasn't willing to let her walk by without me saying something to her. I couldn't stay away. I wanted more.Whipped, that's what I was, but only for Zara.

Based on legislation and legal practice from the period c. 1250-1600 the book takes issue with the most important viewpoints in earlier research by early modernists: that the Reformation represented a watershed in a development characterized by greater criminalisation of sexual acts, increase in the severity of sentences and deterioration of the position of women. According to this study, in principle all or mostly all factors were already in place in the Middle Ages. In Norwegian historiography the period investigated is characterized by paucity of sources, and the period has tended to fall between two stools, respectively the medievalist and the early modernist. The ambition of this book has been to bridge the gap.
