Indigenous Celebrity speaks to the possibilities, challenges, and consequences of popular forms of recognition, critically recasting the lens through which we understand Indigenous people’s entanglements with celebrity. It presents a wide range of essays that explore the theoretical, material, social, cultural, and political impacts of celebrity on and for Indigenous people. It questions and critiques the whitestream concept of celebrity and the very juxtaposition of “Indigenous” and “celebrity” and casts a critical lens on celebrity culture’s impact on Indigenous people. Indigenous people who willingly engage with celebrity culture, or are drawn up into it, enter into a complex terrain of social relations informed by layered dimensions of colonialism, racism, sexism, homophobia/transphobia, and classism. Yet this reductive framing of celebrity does not account for the ways that Indigenous people’s own worldviews inform Indigenous engagement with celebrity culture––or rather, popular social and cultural forms of recognition. Indigenous Celebrity reorients conversations on Indigenous celebrity towards understanding how Indigenous people draw from nation-specific processes of respect and recognition while at the same time navigating external assumptions and expectations. This collection examines the relationship of Indigenous people to the concept of celebrity in past, present, and ongoing contexts, identifying commonalities, tensions, and possibilities.

This book is about humanity. It questions the essence of who we are as an individual, as part of a shared community and as a species from various perspectives. We are seekers….We want to know the answers to the essence and intricate mechanisms of everything that concerns us and everything around us. What is it all about? How and why do things happen? We want to know the cause or causes. Is there an ultimate cause for who I am and who do we think we are? Frequently, we find ourselves contemplating: What course of action should we pursue? To live or merely to survive. As we strive to gain knowledge, it is important to recognise the essential role of effort in navigating the complex fabric of life. I believe that every individual, at various junctures, assumes the role of a philosopher, thereby engaging actively in the pursuit of wisdom and knowledge. Therefore, seeking answers to these fundamental questions is not solely reserved for intellectuals, theologians and esotericists, but rather it is a matter that should engage the attention of anyone possessing a modicum of rationality. The subject matter encapsulated within the pages of this book has been expounded upon by a multitude of erudite authors and profound thinkers, who have traversed the realms of knowledge and contemplation. Drawing upon my perception, I have attempted to reconnect the scattered dots, unveiling my discernment of the world and the essence of humanity. The resultant canvas, adorned with enigmatic queries, beckons us to embark upon a journey of introspection and enlightenment, ultimately leading each one of us to an understanding of who do we think we are. This is Volume I, and it covers the first section of mysteries. Volume II covers miracles and mythology and concludes with my own thoughts.

Mans search for meaning is a perennial quest. The workings and desires and hopes and frustrations of the mind, tell us many things about it, and why it is the way it is. The awesome capacity of the entire person to become addicted to almost anything, throws a light on our strength and also our weakness. The human face is a shadow cast by the mind, and more often than not, it functions as a one-way mirror rather than a true reflection of what is going on beneath the surface. We become attached to people and things, and we actually love. The exhilaration of true joy crafted onto a robust scaffold of pain and disappointment and suffering and sorrow is counter intuitive yet very real. Joy in the possession of the beloved is as good as it gets down here, but our minds pine for this bliss always. This longing for joy is not a vestigial structure in a once functional lobe of our primordial brains that has become atrophied due to disuse. It is the flicker of light at the end of our tunnel showing us the way to go. The human mind is truly a blueprint of our destiny.

The New Thought movement (also Higher Thought) is a spiritual movement that coalesced in the United States in the early 19th century. New Thought was seen by its adherents as succeeding "ancient thought", accumulated wisdom and philosophy from a variety of origins, such as Ancient Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Chinese, Taoist, Vedic, Hindu, and Buddhist cultures and their related belief systems, primarily regarding the interaction between thought, belief, consciousness in the human mind, and the effects of these within and beyond the human mind. Step-by-step practices for cultivating spiritual awakening, from a renowned spiritual psychologist who has studied the phenomenon in hundreds of people and experienced it himself Steve Taylor has devoted his life to investigating spiritual awakening. In his books The Leap and Extraordinary Awakenings, he discussed case histories of dozens of people who experienced profound shifts in consciousness. The Adventure draws on this groundbreaking research, together with Taylor’s own awakening experiences, to offer guided meditations, contemplative exercises, and other practices for catalyzing spiritual transformation, as well as lyric poems and inspirational stories. The Adventure outlines how to: • recognize and cultivate the eight defining characteristics of wakefulness, including presence, acceptance, gratitude, and disidentification from the ego • expand awareness and quiet the mind through meditations and practical exercises • transcend our normal “sleep” state and the “thought mind” to move toward increasing heights and depths of spiritual awakening • use the challenges of everyday life — of home, workplace, and relationships — as doorways to enlightenment
