As an Army chaplain deployed to Afghanistan, George Tyger has seen and experienced things that many of us cannot fathom: naked children throwing rocks at him in the street, a playground in the middle of a Taliban graveyard, and incredible violence, anger, loneliness, and fear. Determined to find meaning in the midst of it all, Tyger reflects on his faith, his prejudices, and his privilege, and shares the unique perspective he has gained while serving and ministering in a war zone.

For many believers, the fight has disappeared from their faith. Faith and fighting go hand in hand and cannot be separated. To separate the fight from faith, or faith from the fight, causes both ones faith and ones fight to be ineffective and powerless. In order to war, one must have faith. When a believer moves, lives and works by faith it is inevitable that he/she will encounter opposition and war. There is a war going on. Unless we fight and overcome this war, we will be overcome. Unless God's people stand up, pick up the whole armor of God, and make a bold stand for Truth the church will fall deeper into deceit, spiritual bondage, apathy and sleep. This book deals with spiritual warfare against spiritual enemies, within and without. It deals with the believer's wrestling match with the principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12).

I didn't know how to end the nightmares. I was tormented during my sleep, and thought about my nightmares more than half the day. I tried to make sense of them. I wondered if in a past life I had been a civilian during a world war trying desperately to escape the devastation of war, However, I didn't believe in past lives or reincarnation. I believe there is a God, a devil, a heaven, and a hell. Every night from the earliest age I can recall I was in hell, a war zone, battling for my survival, running from the fiery flames of crashing, burning airplanes from all directions, the horror of no protection from the evil trying to consume me alive.

Apostasy or Falling Away from the Faith" is commonly thought in Christian theology to characterize the church in its last hour before the antichrist appears and leads to God's judgment of the world. If you have been walking with the Lord in intimacy you know very well that Satan, the father of all lies is constantly throwing lies at you from the pit of hell. But God through the Holy Spirit brings us comfort and love in our cast down times. Like the apostle Paul, we then say, "I am filled with comfort, I am exceedingly joyful in all tribulation." (2 Corinthians 7:4) We do have tribulations but it is at times like these that we must get our focus away from the situation and stop fretting about it. Instead get up seek out and bring the Word of God to those who wait to be filled with the Spirit through God's Word. Stop trying to please God by planning some great sacrificial work, or raising money for a new building project or organizing a new Christian venture to help the needy. Likewise, dutifully attending Church, singing in the choir, heading church committees and beautifying the sanctuary with flowers and candles is not the answer. It seems all well because it shows our desire to worship the Lord, but it is not what the Lord expects from us during these last days. He wants us to leave the comfort of the Church sanctuary and walk, "I mean run" outside and seek out the hurting souls to bring them God's healing. Remember, we have been given all the power of heaven to console a hurting soul, someone who needs to hear that God is real and answering the Cry of the Lost."

"As we struggle to subdue our own mind, will, and emotions to Christ; as we strive to preserve unity and mutual love for one another in the Body of Christ; as we attempt to advance the Kingdom of God and make disciples of all the nations-we do not contend with people's hearts and minds; we contend with the spiritual forces of darkness." -from chapter one Where are you in the spiritual warzone? In this stirring book, Christians are called to realize that they have been drafted into God's army and are even now taking a part-be it as combatant, captive, victim, or an instrument of the enemy-in the war against Satan and his minions. Jackson seeks to uncover the spiritual forces at work within the spheres of geopolitical unrest, the deterioration of the family, and the warring forces within individuals. He encourages readers to find their places in Jesus Christ, connect with the Body of Christ, and use their gifts to achieve maximum impact for God's Kingdom.
