Eddie Hertz is a 12-year-old genius who patrols the streets of Nirvana, hoping to foil the schemes of the evil Mephisto. Being small for his age, Eddie relies on a Batman-style gadgets belt and acrobatic skills as well as street smarts and ingenuity. Eddie has a dream, to become like Damocles, Nirvana's great superhero. To accomplish that goal, Eddie invented a device that theoretically will endow him with superpowers, but using it on himself could be dangerous, maybe even fatal, so he doesn't have the nerve to try it. When Mephisto unleashes an earthquake machine to terrorize the city, Eddie gains a surprising ally - his quirky eight-year-old sister, Samantha, who comes up with an unexpected way to help in the frantic battle to prevent the impending destruction. Working as a team, the siblings fight Mephisto in a race against time to save Nirvana and the world from devastating earthquakes, all the while receiving advice from a computerized version of Damocles, who has been rendered incapable of helping in physical form.

In this fresh new take on the world of superheroes, explore what it's like to be the non-super half of a dynamic duo. Spoiler alert: it's not easy being super-adjacent. Claire has always wanted to work with superheroes, from collecting Warrior Nation cards as a kid to drafting "What to Say to a Hero" speeches in her diary. Now that she's landed a coveted internship with the Chicago branch of Warrior Nation, Claire is ready to prove she belongs, super or not. But complicating plans is the newest WarNat hero, Girl Power (aka Joy), who happens to be egotistical and self-important . . . and pretty adorable. Bridgette, meanwhile, wants out of WarNat. After years of dating the famous Vaporizer (aka Matt), she's sick of playing second, or third, or five-hundredth fiddle to all the people-in-peril in the city of Chicago. Of course, once Bridgette meets Claire—who's clearly in need of a mentor and wingman—giving up WarNat becomes slightly more complicated. It becomes a lot morecomplicated when Joy, Matt, and the rest of the heroes go missing, leaving only Claire and Bridgette to save the day. In this fresh and funny take on the world of supers, author Crystal Cestari spotlights what it's like to be the seemingly non-super half of a dynamic duo with banter-filled romance and bold rescues perfect for readers seeking a great escape.

‘ ‘A riveting read of the difficult and important things of what medics do.’ Matthew Heneghan doesn't see people at their best. Instead, they come to him in desperate need. The experience of needing a medic can be like waking up in a foreign country. You frantically want to know, ‘What is happening with me?’ The ability to reassure people, to give the foreign country a ‘name,' helps people. Author Matthew Heneghan always knew he wanted to be a medic. In this raw new medical memoir, he interweaves the stories of his growing up with the brutal realities of living with life and death each day. With sensitive observation and graceful writing, this book explores the highs and lows of being a paramedic in a world where everything is not always what it seems. Matthew writes that being a paramedic caused his ‘soul to bleed.’ It is not about the practicalities of the job but about the evil of the world that he is forced to see day after day. He calls himself part of the ‘walking wounded.’ In ‘A Medic’s Mind -Love, Loss and All Things in between,’ Matthew Heneghan writes of the life-altering experiences and other struggles he faced in his journey to becoming a good medic – from being a youth in a home where his mom struggled with mental illness, to his medic training in the United States army. He tells of exhausting shifts as a paramedic and coming face-to-face with his own mortality and the socioeconomic dilemmas of his patients. It is a read not to be missed!
