The only gift we can give to the world is the manifestation of the Spirit in our every moment. We can be the Light that is needed in our country and our world today. Every one of us has the power to bring about change, if only we can believe and touch the Spirit within. For Vindra Naipaul-Coolman these words were reflected in the life that she lived. She was a modern day contemplative, born in Trinidad and Tobago, who believed that she could make a difference in its development at all levels. Her much publicised kidnapping and murder in December 2006 has left an indelible mark in the landscape of our country. This book introduces other aspects of her extraordinary life in the hope that her story will become more than just a passing memory. Ultimately, it should serve as a catalyst for change both in our inner and outer worlds.

This manual is intended to fill a gap in the area of Romance studies. There is no introduction available so far that broadly covers the field of Catalan linguistics, neither in Catalan nor in any other language. The work deals with the language spoken in Catalonia and Andorra, the Balearic Islands, the region of Valencia, Northern Catalonia and the town of l'Alguer in Sardinia. Besides introducing the ideologies of language and nation and the history of Catalan linguistics, the manual is divided into separate parts embracing the description – grammar, lexicon, variation and varieties – and the history of the language since the early medieval period to the present day. It also covers its current social and political situation in the new local and global contexts. The main emphasis is placed on modern Catalan. The manual is designed as a companion for students of Catalan, while also introducing specialists of other languages into this field, in particular scholars of Romance languages.

The book presents a description of Unua, one of two dialects of Unua-Pangkumu, an Oceanic language of Malakula Island, Vanuatu. Unua has about 700 speakers who are bilinguals using Unua in local interactions and using the national language, Bislama, non-locally, as well as in local public and religious settings. The description is based on material collected in the field from speakers of different age-groups in the five Unua villages. The data corpus includes a substantial body of material: contemporary translations of the New Testament gospels; audio-recorded transcribed and glossed texts; and elicited material collected with a range of speakers. The analysis includes comparisons with other Malakula languages and is both of typological and historical-comparative interest. The data documentation is substantial and detailed.

New interpretations of different aspects of troubadour texts and lyrics, from their main themes and motifs to their reception and influence. Nearly a millennium after their songs of love, politics, war, satire, and redemption began to fill the courts of Europe, the troubadours continue to fascinate modern audiences. However, many aspects of their work, such as the supposedly adulterous nature of fin'amor, the "Frenchness" of the troubadours, the biographical veracity of the vidas, and the inherent misogyny of the troubadour lyric, have long been taken for granted. This volume takes a fresh look at these ideas, questioning many of the formative assumptions of troubadour scholarship, and proposing alternative readings of many canonical texts. Essays offer a reconsideration of the reception of works by such important figures as Guilhem IX, Jaufre Rudel, Peire Vidal, Pistoleta, Guilhem Adhemar, Giraut de Borneil, Perdigon, Fulk of Marseilles, and Arnaut Daniel. There are also examinations of the lexicon and cultural uses of chess, azure and tin, and the changing landscape of the Rhone delta, providing a deeper understanding of the imagery they furnished. Other essays consider the later life of the manuscripts, including the surprising story of how Napoleon demanded certain Occitan manuscripts after his conquest of Italy. The collection as a whole is thus a fitting tribute to the pioneering work of Wendy Pfeffer, who has made such a contribution to the field of troubadour studies.

This book is a fiction romance novel that tells a beautiful love story. As the streets that lead from the Strand to the Embankment are very slim, it's better no longer to walk down them arm-in-arm. If you persevere, lawyers' clerks will have to make flying leaps into the mud; young female typists will have to fidget in the back of you. In the streets of London wherein beauty is going unregarded, eccentricity must pay the penalty, and it is higher no longer to be very tall, to put on a long blue cloak, or to conquer the air together with your left hand. One afternoon in the beginning of October whilst the traffic was turning brisk a tall guy strode alongside the edge of the pavement with a lady on his arm. Angry glances struck upon their backs.

Three full-length fantasies with romantic elements by Maree Anderson. The Seer Trilogy Bundle is approximately 316,000 words and contains: Seer's Hope (Book One, Hope's story), Seer's Promise (Book Two, Romana's story), Seer's Choice (Book Three, Ryley's story). SEER'S HOPE (Book One of The Seer Trilogy): Hope is snatched from her home and transported to a primitive world of magic and capricious gods. The Dayamari people believe she’s a Seer and their only hope of salvation, but she’s blind—she can’t see anything at all, let alone the future. She must accept her destiny and learn to wield the awe-inspiring powers the gods have bestowed upon her. And if she’s to save those she loves from the horrifying evil that lurks in the darkness, failure is not an option. SEER'S PROMISE (Book Two of The Seer Trilogy): Hope’s Sehani powers have finally grown strong enough to risk returning to Earth. Gods willing, she’ll find a way to rid her daughter of the soul-eater that possesses her, and convince Romana to return with her to Dayamaria. Romana is captivated by the prospect of becoming a powerful Sehan like her mother. But her dreams are shattered when everything she’d hoped for is bestowed upon someone who couldn’t care less about wielding Sehani magic. Romana craves power with every fiber of her being… and when she finds a way to take what she wants the cost is devastating for gods and humankind alike. SEER'S CHOICE (Book Three of The Seer Trilogy): Ryley has traveled across worlds and discovered his soul mate living in the Earth town of Seaview… his mother’s hometown. Watching Rowan from afar is one thing, but actively interfering in her destiny? That’s against “the rules” in so many ways—especially when your mother is the most powerful Sehan in Dayamaria, and your grandmother happens to be a goddess. If anyone discovers where he’s been disappearing to—and why—there’ll be big trouble. But he can’t give Rowan up, especially now her strange powers have spun dangerously out of control. And when Dayamaria is threatened by a deadly predator immune to magic, Ryley must choose between the woman he loves and the people he left behind.
