In the Tet Offensive of 1968, Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces launched a massive countrywide attack on South Vietnam. Drafted into the Army in 1968, Gillam transformed from an uncertain sergeant to an aggressive soldier, serving in Vietnam and Cambodia.
