John C. Poirier examines the “theopneustic” nature of the Scripture, as a response to the view that “inspiration” lies at the heart of most contemporary Christian theology. In contrast to the traditional rendering of the Greek word theopneustos as “God-inspired” in 2 Tim 3:16, Poirier argues that a close look at first- and second-century uses of theopneustos reveals that the traditional inspirationist understanding of the term did not arise until the time of Origen in the early third century CE, and that in every pre-Origen use of theopneustos the word instead means “life-giving.” Poirier thus conducts a detailed investigation of theopneustos as it appears in the fifth Sibylline Oracle, the Testament of Abraham, Vettius Valens, Pseudo-Plutarch (Placita Philosophorum), and Pseudo-Phocylides, all of whom understand the word to mean “life-giving.” He also studies the use of the cognate term theopnous in Numenius, the Corpus Hermeticum, on an inscription at the Great Sphinx of Giza, and on an inscription at a nymphaeum at Laodicea on the Lycus. Poirier argues that a rendering of “life-giving” also fits better within the context of 2 Tim 3:16, and that this meaning survived late enough to figure in a fifth-century work by Nonnus of Panopolis. He further traces the pre-Origen use of theopneustos among the Church Fathers. Poirier concludes by addressing the implication of rethinking the traditional understanding of Scripture, stressing that the lack of “God-inspired” scripture ultimately does not affect the truth status of the gospel as preached by the apostles.

"Inupiatun Uqaluit Taniktun Sivuni ""it/Inupiaq to English Dictionary, "with approximately 19,000 entries (word stems, suffixes, and endings) and thirty-one appendices, is a rich cultural and linguistic resource of the Inupiaq language, the ancestral language of approximately five thousand Inupiat who live in eight villages on the North Slope of Alaska. Inupiaq word stems, suffixes, and endings can combine to form thousands of combinations, and each entry has an English translation. Many entries contain a verbal illustration in Inupiaq also translated into English. Every entry contains a morpheme by morpheme analysis. Of the dictionary s thirty-one appendices, twenty-four contain lists of terms from different categories, including: kin terms, ice and snow terms, temporal terms, names of constellations, ocean currents, and winds, area references, spatial terms, an explanation of the Inupiat counting system (also a list of cardinal and ordinal numbers), Inupiaq personal names, names of plants and animals (including mammals, insects, birds, fish, molluscs, and crustaceans), a list of exclamations, and names of the seasons/months. The other seven appendices are illustrations of an umiak, a kayak, a bowhead whale, a human skull, a human skeleton, and a traditional sod house. The various parts of each item are identified and named. "

SISDEP ’95 provides an international forum for the presentation of state-of-the-art research and development results in the area of numerical process and device simulation. Continuously shrinking device dimensions, the use of new materials, and advanced processing steps in the manufacturing of semiconductor devices require new and improved software. The trend towards increasing complexity in structures and process technology demands advanced models describing all basic effects and sophisticated two and three dimensional tools for almost arbitrarily designed geometries. The book contains the latest results obtained by scientists from more than 20 countries on process simulation and modeling, simulation of process equipment, device modeling and simulation of novel devices, power semiconductors, and sensors, on device simulation and parameter extraction for circuit models, practical application of simulation, numerical methods, and software.

Adaptivity is a crucial tool in state-of-the-art scientific computing. However, its theoretical foundations are only understood partially and are subject of current research. This self-contained work provides theoretical basics on partial differential equations and finite element discretizations before focusing on adaptive finite element methods for time dependent problems. In this context, aspects of temporal adaptivity and error control are considered in particular. Based on the gained insights, a specific adaptive algorithm is designed and analyzed thoroughly. Most importantly, it is proven that the presented adaptive method terminates within any demanded error tolerance. Moreover, the developed algorithm is analyzed from a numerical point of view and its performance is compared to well-known standard methods. Finally, it is applied to the real-life problem of concrete carbonation, where two different discretizations are compared.

Gain a firm, practical understanding of securing your network and utilize Python's packages to detect vulnerabilities in your application Key Features Discover security techniques to protect your network and systems using Python Create scripts in Python to automate security and pentesting tasks Analyze traffic in a network and extract information using Python Book Description Python's latest updates add numerous libraries that can be used to perform critical security-related missions, including detecting vulnerabilities in web applications, taking care of attacks, and helping to build secure and robust networks that are resilient to them. This fully updated third edition will show you how to make the most of them and improve your security posture. The first part of this book will walk you through Python scripts and libraries that you'll use throughout the book. Next, you'll dive deep into the core networking tasks where you will learn how to check a network's vulnerability using Python security scripting and understand how to check for vulnerabilities in your network – including tasks related to packet sniffing. You'll also learn how to achieve endpoint protection by leveraging Python packages along with writing forensics scripts. The next part of the book will show you a variety of modern techniques, libraries, and frameworks from the Python ecosystem that will help you extract data from servers and analyze the security in web applications. You'll take your first steps in extracting data from a domain using OSINT tools and using Python tools to perform forensics tasks. By the end of this book, you will be able to make the most of Python to test the security of your network and applications. What you will learn Program your own tools in Python that can be used in a Network Security process Automate tasks of analysis and extraction of information from servers Detect server vulnerabilities and analyze security in web applications Automate security and pentesting tasks by creating scripts with Python Utilize the ssh-audit tool to check the security in SSH servers Explore WriteHat as a pentesting reports tool written in Python Automate the process of detecting vulnerabilities in applications with tools like Fuxploider Who this book is for This Python book is for network engineers, system administrators, and other security professionals looking to overcome common networking and security issues using Python. Old English is a companion to Old English studies and to historical studies of early English in general. It is also an introduction to Indo-European studies in the particular sense in which they underpin the history of English. Professor Roger Lass makes accessible in a linguistically up-to-date and readable form the Indo-European and Germanic background to Old English, as well as what can be reconstructed about the resulting state of Old English itself. His book is a bridge between the more elementary Old English grammars and the major philological grammars and recent interpretations of the Old English data.Old English assumes a basic knowledge of phonetics and phonology, the elements of syntactic and morphological theory, and an introduction to historical linguistics. An extensive glossary gives definitions of the major technical terms used.

A struggle is currently underway to figure out one of the central groups in the gospel story . . . the Pharisees. Were they "hypocrites or heroes"? Or as one recent writer put it, maybe they were just "good guys with bad press." Scholars of Judaism and of the NT have been painstakingly correcting, even rehabilitating, the image of the first-century Pharisees, but this seems not yet to have affected most readers of Scripture. Here at last is a book that lays out for the non-specialist the evidence for the origin and true nature of the Pharisees . . . and challenges them to re-read the gospel stories with real Pharisees in mind rather than caricatures.
