Embark on a delightful culinary journey as we explore the rich and diverse flavors of Malaysian desserts and sweet delights, taking you on a mouth-watering adventure through the vibrant and colorful world of Malaysian cuisine. Malaysia, a melting pot of cultures and traditions, boasts a culinary scene that is as diverse as it is delicious. From traditional Malay kuih to Chinese pastries and Indian sweets, Malaysian desserts offer a tantalizing array of flavors and textures that will surely satisfy any sweet tooth. One of the most iconic Malaysian desserts is the "kuih," a term used to describe a wide variety of bite-sized snacks and sweets that are typically enjoyed as a snack or dessert. These colorful and intricately designed treats come in a myriad of flavors, from pandan-infused rice cakes to sweet potato dumplings, each offering a unique taste experience that reflects Malaysia's cultural diversity. One of my personal favorite Malaysian desserts is the "onde-onde," a popular kuih made from glutinous rice flour filled with palm sugar and coated in grated coconut. The burst of sweetness from the molten palm sugar as you bite into the chewy rice ball is truly a flavor explosion that never fails to delight my taste buds. Moving on to Chinese-influenced desserts, Malaysia offers a wide range of pastries and sweets that are sure to satisfy any craving for something sweet. From the iconic egg tarts to the delicate almond cookies, Chinese desserts in Malaysia are a testament to the country's rich culinary heritage and the influence of Chinese immigrants on the local food scene. One Chinese dessert that stands out is the "tau fu fa," a silky smooth tofu pudding served with a sweet ginger syrup. The contrast between the creamy texture of the tofu pudding and the warm spiciness of the ginger syrup creates a harmonious balance of flavors that is both comforting and indulgent. Indian sweets also play a significant role in Malaysia's dessert landscape, with classics like "gulab jamun" and "jalebi" making their mark on the local food scene. These syrup-soaked treats are a testament to the rich culinary traditions of the Indian community in Malaysia and are beloved by Malaysians of all backgrounds. As you traverse the bustling streets of Malaysia, you will encounter an array of dessert stalls and sweet shops offering a tantalizing array of treats that are sure to tempt your taste buds. Whether you're in the mood for something traditional and comforting or bold and innovative, Malaysia has something for everyone when it comes to satisfying your sweet cravings. In conclusion, Malaysia's culinary landscape is a treasure trove of flavors and textures that are waiting to be explored. From the colorful and intricate kuih to the comforting and indulgent Chinese pastries and the syrup-soaked Indian sweets, Malaysian desserts offer a delightful journey through the diverse and vibrant world of Malaysian cuisine. For a century, economists have driven forward the cause of globalization in financial institutions, labour markets, and trade. Yet there have been consistent warning signs that a global economy and free trade might not always be advantageous. Where are the pressure points? What could be done about them? Dani Rodrik examines the back-story from its seventeenth-century origins through the milestones of the gold standard, the Bretton Woods Agreement, and the Washington Consensus, to the present day. Although economic globalization has enabled unprecedented levels of prosperity in advanced countries and has been a boon to hundreds of millions of poor workers in China and elsewhere in Asia, it is a concept that rests on shaky pillars, he contends. Its long-term sustainability is not a given. The heart of Rodrik’s argument is a fundamental 'trilemma': that we cannot simultaneously pursue democracy, national self-determination, and economic globalization. Give too much power to governments, and you have protectionism. Give markets too much freedom, and you have an unstable world economy with little social and political support from those it is supposed to help. Rodrik argues for smart globalization, not maximum globalization.

If you eat while lying down, you will turn into a snake. If you don't polish off all the rice on your plate you will marry a man full of pimples and pockmarks. Looking After the Ashes is a semi-biographical fiction of Kopi Soh's childhood stories. Growing up in a large extended Taoist influenced Peranakan family filled with strong women, Soh hears these words of 'wisdom' daily. She used to live in a world where clipping finger nails at night was strictly forbidden, pointing at the moon would result in one's ears getting chopped off, and children were forced to stay indoors during sundown for fear of collision with evil forces. A world where mental disorders and illnesses were believed to be caused by malevolent spirits. Talisman, mediums and fortune tellers were a part of everyday life.
