One minute, Evangeline feels like every aspect of her young life is falling into place, until a crippling round of chaos threatens everything she has ever known. She is admitted to multiple psychiatric hospitals as doctors puzzle over her rapidly deteriorating condition. She is force-fed several drugs all day along with the idea that her faith in God is no more than a dangerous religious delusion. Later, she is left to discover the frustration of recovery with no clear diagnosis, minimal recollection of the experience, and a lifetime of unanswered questions. In order to recover some semblance of peace, she must decide for herself what really happened that winter when hell broke loose and nightmares became far too real. And, little does she know, her battle has only just begun.

“Powerful, laden with emotion, and smartly written.” —Brandon Sanderson, author of Mistborn and The Way of Kings A brilliant historical fantasy novel from acclaimed author Mary Robinette Kowal featuring the mysterious spirit corps and their heroic work in World War I. Ginger Stuyvesant, an American heiress living in London during World War I, is engaged to Captain Benjamin Harford, an intelligence officer. Ginger is a medium for the Spirit Corps, a special Spiritualist force. Each soldier heading for the front is conditioned to report to the mediums of the Spirit Corps when they die so the Corps can pass instant information about troop movements to military intelligence. Ginger and her fellow mediums contribute a great deal to the war efforts, so long as they pass the information through appropriate channels. While Ben is away at the front, Ginger discovers the presence of a traitor. Without the presence of her fiancé to validate her findings, the top brass thinks she's just imagining things. Even worse, it is clear that the Spirit Corps is now being directly targeted by the German war effort. Left to her own devices, Ginger has to find out how the Germans are targeting the Spirit Corps and stop them. This is a difficult and dangerous task for a woman of that era, but this time both the spirit and the flesh are willing... In his book “Overcoming Through the Spirit” the author shows the world of today to be no different than the world in the time of the apostles. The Apostle John wrote, “the whole world lieth in wickedness” (1 John 5:19) Today there is also false doctrines, false prophets and teachers, and people in all nations proclaiming themselves to be something they are not. The foremost reason I have written this book is that I was deeply impressed by God to write this book and entitle it “Overcoming through the Spirit.” I began a writing ministry in September of 1994 that is continuing at present writing articles for the church bulletin based on the messages preached by the ministry. These articles comprise most of the essential doctrines on a Christian's overcoming faith. When adding a comment from a church bulletin article on a particular thought, I reference it with an endnote. While a book instructing someone to overcome and have victory in their life is needful, experiential knowledge is the best teacher and way to learn the art of overcoming through the help of the Spirit and the word of God. I desire that this book be a great source to all who read it on maintaining an upright spirit and living for God in truth and holiness through the Spirit and word of Jesus Christ working in their hearts (Philippians 2:13).

What we call here the ‘Marrano phenomenon’ is still a relatively unexplored fact of modern Western culture: the presence of the borderline Jewish identity which avoids clear-cut cultural and religious attribution, but nevertheless exerts significant influence on modern humanities. Our aim, however, is not a historical study of the Marranos (or conversos), i.e., the mostly Spanish and Portguese Jews of the 15th and 16th centuries, who were forced to convert to Christianity, but were suspected of retaining their Judaism ‘undercover’: such an approach already exists and has been developed within the field of historical research. We rather want to apply the ‘Marrano metaphor’ to explore the fruitful area of mixture and crossover which allowed modern thinkers, writers, and artists of the Jewish origin to enter the realm of universal communication—without, at the same time, making them relinquish their Jewishness, which they subsequently developed as a ‘hidden tradition’. What is of special interest to us is the modern development of the non-normative forms of religious thinking located on the borderline between Christianity and Judaism, from Spinoza to Derrida.

God’s desire is to commune with man. God being spirit, the man who worships Him must worship in spirit and truth. It is therefore essential for man to be spiritual. This is what the gospel of Jesus Christ is all about. Salvation is the way to spirituality. The original three volume set of The Spiritual Man by Watchman Nee serves as a guide, not as a manual, to walk in spiritual life as well as to fight the spiritual warfare. It was written under tremendous spiritual conflict. Only through the grace of God and the victory of Christ was Watchman Nee able to finish the writing. Now having become a Christian classic, it may be considered as Watchman Nee’s legacy to the Church. Condensed in this new volume, there are 42 lessons to be learned in journeying towards the spiritual. May we be guided by the Spirit of God to heartily learn these necessary lessons all to the glory of God.
