The work of Christ in His life, death, resurrection, and ascension is most impressive and foundational to the Christian faith. Yet these grand acts of redemption are of little benefit if one is not so closely associated with Jesus as to find his life and death in Him. In Union and Communion with Christ, Maurice Roberts offers us eighteen meditations on the Christian's union with Christ and its accompanying fellowship. These reflections probe the essence of this blessed union, examine its evidences and revel in its benefits. Table of Contents: The Love which Believers Owe to Christ The Union of Believers with Christ The Nature of our Union with Christ A Union More Enduring than Time Abiding in Christ Christ, Our Life and Our Righteousness Seated with Christ in Grace and Glory Evidences of a Real Union with Christ The Love of God to Those in Christ The Unction which Teaches Believers Christ and His Church The Blessed Fellowship of Believers in Christ The Brotherly Bond of Christian Love Fellowship with Christ in His Sufferings and Joys Our Communion with Christ in Joyous Experiences Our Union with Christ in the Sacraments The Union of Christ and His People Reflected in the Psalms Man's Instinctive Desire for God's Fellowship

Union and Communion: or Thoughts on the Song of Solomon This is Hudson's Taylor's commentary on the Song of Songs. It is a wonderful meditation on Solomon's book. In the commentary, Taylor shares how the book outlines the journey of all believers as they are sought out by the True Shepherd and Lover of their souls. Excerpt from the Introduction: In Solomon, the bridegroom king, as well as author of this poem, we have a type of our LORD, the true Prince of peace, in His coming reign. Then will be found not merely His bride, the Church, but also a willing people, His subjects, over whom He shall reign gloriously. Then distant potentates will bring their wealth, and will behold the glory of the enthroned KING, proving Him with hard questions, as once came the Queen of Sheba to King Solomon; and blessed will they be to whom this privilege is accorded. A brief glance will suffice them for a lifetime; but what shall be the royal dignity and blessedness of the risen and exalted bride! For ever with her LORD, for ever like her LORD, for ever conscious that His desire is toward her, she will share alike His heart and His throne. Can a study of the book which helps us to understand these mysteries of grace and love be other than most profitable?

- Respected author - An ideal companion to the author's books Discovering Christ in Genesis and Discovering Christ in Revelation. - John Gill wrote, 'The whole Song is figurative and allegorical; expressing, in a variety of lively metaphors, the love, union, and communion between Christ and his church; setting forth the several different frames, cases, and circumstances of believers in this life.'

Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon were all thought by the early church fathers to have derived from the hand of Solomon. To their minds the finest wisdom about the deeper issues of life was to be found in these books. This ACCS volume offers a rich trove of wisdom on Wisdom literature for the enrichment of the church today.

Spiritually there is a great hunger today for contemplative and more satisfying experiences with God. Puritanism might seem to be an unlikely source for this, yet few groups in the history of Christian spirituality have written more extensively or wisely on the subject. Isaac Ambrose (1604-64), a relatively forgotten English Puritan, developed a theological foundation for the spiritual life based upon the Christian's intimate union with Christ, which the Puritans often called "spiritual marriage." Schwanda demonstrates that this vibrant relationship of union and communion with Jesus, inspired by the Holy Spirit, was manifested in a deep contemplative piety of gazing lovingly and gratefully upon God. At the same time, Ambrose did not neglect loving his neighbors. This study reveals how heavenly meditation was one of the significant practices engaged by Ambrose to cultivate spiritual intimacy and enjoyment of God. Further, his experiential reading of Scripture, in particular the Song of Songs, provided him with a language of ravishment and delight in God. This book provides a distinctively Protestant foundation for recovering the contemplative life while recognizing the significant contributions of the Western Catholic tradition.
