As members of the public becomes more concious of the food they consume and its content, higher standards are expected in the preparation of such food. The updated seventh edition of Nutrient Requirements of Beef Cattle explores the impact of cattle's biological, production, and environmental diversities, as well as variations on nutrient utilization and requirements. More enhanced than previous editions, this edition expands on the descriptions of cattle and their nutritional requirements taking management and environmental conditions into consideration. The book clearly communicates the current state of beef cattle nutrient requirements and animal variation by visually presenting related data via computer-generated models. Nutrient Requirements of Beef Cattle expounds on the effects of beef cattle body condition on the state of compensatory growth, takes an in-depth look at the variations in cattle type, and documents the important effects of the environment and stress on food intake. This volume also uses new data on the development of a fetus during pregnancy to prescribe nutrient requirements of gestating cattle more precisely. By focusing on factors such as product quality and environmental awareness, Nutrient Requirements of Beef Cattle presents standards and advisements for acceptable nutrients in a complete and conventional manner that promotes a more practical understanding and application.

Factors believed to have the greatest influence on meat quality were cattle genetics (overall rank: 1st) and cattle nutrition (overall rank: 2nd). Additionally, the SWOT analysis identified Ohio meat processors consider “locally raised” a strength, meanwhile uninformed livestock producers was considered a weakness in addition to value added/niche markets an opportunity and “uninformed customers” / “lack of education” (among livestock producers and customers) a threat to their businesses. Lastly, 100% of the Ohio meat processors surveyed order in boxed beef to sustain their retail cases/stores. Moreover, 86% of those meat processors indicated boxed beef made up 50% or less of their retail sales. Overall, the Ohio Beef Quality Audit – 2021 demonstrated similarities to beef carcass characteristics at the national level. The current audit primarily served as a starting point in collecting beef carcass data to better assist beef producers in understanding what is being produced. This understanding could lead to improved livestock practices to better fit the needs of the Ohio beef industry. Furthermore, this information can, and will provide an opportunity to connect livestock practices to end products. Lastly, comments from Ohio meat processors regarding their needs are critical in telling the story of Ohio’s meat industry from the production level to the end-user.

Management Strategies for Sustainable Cattle Production in Southern Pastures is a practical resource for scientists, students, and stakeholders who want to understand the relationships between soil-plant interactions and pasture management strategies, and the resultant performance of cow-calf and stocker cattle. This book illustrates the importance of matching cattle breed types and plant hardiness zones to optimize cattle production from forages and pastures. It explains the biologic and economic implications of grazing management decisions made to improve sustainability of pastures and cattle production while being compliant with present and future environmental concerns and cattle welfare programs. Documents the effects of cattle grazing on greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprints Discusses strategies to enhance soil fertility, soil health, and nutrient cycling in pastures Provides information on the use of stocking rates, stocking strategies and grazing systems to optimize cow-calf production of weaned calves and stockers. Presents innovations in cattle supplementation and watering systems to minimize negative impacts on water and soil health Includes methods for weed control to maintain pasture condition and ecosystem stability Describes management strategies to integrate cattle operations with wildlife sustainability
