The Alliance serves as the arts council for Ulster County, one of the largest per capita concentrations of artistic talent in the country. Located along the Hudson River, incorporating the central Catskill Mountains, & positioned only two hours north of New York City, Ulster County has a long history of exceptional artists residing within its borders. The 1995 edition of the Directory, the first to be published, contains 354 listings of individual artists & 59 listings of arts organizations. Eight categories for individual artists include: Arts/Humanities, Crafts, Dance, Literary Arts, Media Arts, Music, Theatre & Visual Arts with a multitude of sub-categories under each group.
