Tungsten and Its Compounds is a three-chapter text that explores the history, properties, production, and use of tungsten and its related compounds. The first chapter deals with the discovery, applications, ore occurrence, and production of tungsten. The second chapter describes the physico-chemical properties of elemental tungsten, including the structural, thermal, optical, electrical, and mechanical properties, as well as its preparation, production, reactivity, adsorption, electrochemical properties, and analytical aspects. This chapter also examines tungsten's metallographic properties, such as melting, powder metallurgy, singe crystals, and polycrystallinity. The third chapter reviews the properties of tungsten with other metals, metalloids, acids, and salts. This book is of value to inorganic, organic, and analytical chemists, as well as chemistry teachers and students.

Why does someone write a book about Tungsten? There are several reasons and precedents for this, the most important of which is that the last book on tungsten was written more than 20 years ago, in 1977, by St. W H. Yih and Ch T. Wang. During the intervening period there have been many new scientific and technological developments and innova tions, so it was not only our opinion but the view of many other members of the "tungsten family" that it was time to start writing a new book about tungsten. Preparations of the new book began in 1994. further impetus to the project was provided by the realization that in spite of this new knowledge having been presented at seminars or published in the technical press, a general acknowledgement of it by the majority of technicians and scientists is still far from being realized. It is our hope that this book will significantly contribute to a broader acceptance of recent scientific and technological innovations. An important prerequisite for such a project is the availability of a recently retired, experienced person willing to devote his time and talents to the tedious part of the exercise.

Comprehensive Organic Functional Group Transformations II (COFGT-II) will provide the first point of entry to the literature for all scientists interested in chemical transformations. Presenting the vast subject of organic synthesis in terms of the introduction and interconversion of all known functional groups, COFGT-II provides a unique information source documenting all methods of efficiently performing a particular transformation. Organised by the functional group formed, COFGT-II consists of 144 specialist reviews, written by leading scientists who evaluate and summarise the methods available for each functional group transformation. Also available online via ScienceDirect – featuring extensive browsing, searching, and internal cross-referencing between articles in the work, plus dynamic linking to journal articles and abstract databases, making navigation flexible and easy. For more information, pricing options and availability visit www.info.sciencedirect.com. By systematically treating each functional group in turn the work also identifies what is not known, thus pointing the way to new research areas Follows the systematic layout of the successful 1995 COFGT reference work, based on the arrangement and bonding of hetero-atoms around a central carbon atom The work will save researchers valuable time in their research as each chapter is written by experts who have critically read and reviewed the literature and presented the best methods of forming every known functional group

The volumes in this continuing series provide a compilation of current techniques and ideas in inorganic synthetic chemistry. Includes inorganic polymer syntheses and preparation of important inorganic solids, syntheses used in the development of pharmacologically active inorganic compounds, small-molecule coordination complexes, and related compounds. Also contains valuable information on transition organometallic compounds including species with metal-metal cluster molecules. All syntheses presented here have been tested.

This widely acclaimed serial contains authoritative reviews that address all aspects of organometallic chemistry, a field which has expanded enormously since the publication of Volume 1 in 1964. Almost all branches of chemistry and material science now interface with organometallic chemistry - the study of compounds containing carbon-metal bonds. Organometallic compounds range from species which are so reactive that they only have a transient existence at ambient temperatures to species which are thermally very stable. Organometallics are used extensively in the synthesis of useful compounds on both large and small scales. Industrial processes involving plastics, polymers, electronic materials, and pharmaceuticals all depend on advancesments in organometallic chemistry. In basic research, Organometallics have contributed inter alia to metal cluster chemistry, surface chemistry, the stablilization of highly reactive species by metal coordination, chiral synthesis, the formulation of multiple bonds between carbon and the other elements and between the elements themselves. Advances in Organometallic Chemistry is an essential reference work for the academic and industrial chemist and will provide up-to-date material at the cutting edge of chemistry research. - Metal organic compounds of calcium, strontium, and barium in chemical vapour deposition - 17- and 19-electron organometallic complexes - Halocarbonyl complexes of molybdenum and tungsten - Substituent effects in metallacene chemistry
