I am well aware that the burden is not light, and that the people Will hold both you and me accountable for the trust committed to our care. We are, for the time being, the servants of the people, elected to govern and administer the affairs of this city according to oaths taken and With What Wisdom and knowledge have been given to us. For my part, Whatever ability I possess shall be used with an honest purpose to be governed by the principle of justice towards all Without fear or favor, and I shall endeavor to advance the best interests of the city. Relying on you, gentlemen, for counsel, I en ter upon its duties Without any misgivings for the future. City affairs should be managed as careful business men manage their own.
