Zadeh's fuzzy set theory incorporates the impreciseness of data and evaluations, by imputting the degrees by which each object belongs to a set. Its success fostered theories that codify the subjectivity, uncertainty, imprecision, or roughness of the evaluations. Their rationale is to produce new flexible methodologies in order to model a variety of concrete decision problems more realistically. This Special Issue garners contributions addressing novel tools, techniques and methodologies for decision making (inclusive of both individual and group, single- or multi-criteria decision making) in the context of these theories. It contains 38 research articles that contribute to a variety of setups that combine fuzziness, hesitancy, roughness, covering sets, and linguistic approaches. Their ranges vary from fundamental or technical to applied approaches.

This book describes the latest findings related to fuzzy techniques, discussing applications in control, economics, education, humor studies, industrial engineering, linguistics, management, marketing, medicine and public health, military engineering, robotics, ship design, sports, transportation, and many other areas. It also presents recent fuzzy-related algorithms and theoretical results that can be used in other application areas. Featuring selected papers from the Joint World Congress of the International Fuzzy Systems Association (IFSA) and the Annual Conference of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society (NAFIPS) IFSA-NAFIPS’2019, held in Lafayette, Louisiana, USA, on June 18–21, 2019, the book is of interest to practitioners wanting to use fuzzy techniques to process imprecise expert knowledge. It is also a valuable resource for researchers wishing to extend the ideas from these papers to new application areas, for graduate students and for anyone else interested in problems involving fuzziness and uncertainty.

This book presents the latest developments in the theory and applications of time series analysis and forecasting. Comprising a selection of refereed papers, it is divided into several parts that address modern theoretical aspects of time series analysis, forecasting and prediction, with applications to various disciplines, including econometrics and energy research. The broad range of topics discussed, including matters of particular relevance for sustainable development, will give readers a modern perspective on the subject. The included contributions were originally presented at the 8th International Conference on Time Series and Forecasting, ITISE 2022, held in Gran Canaria, Spain, June 27-30, 2022. The ITISE conference series provides a forum for scientists, engineers, educators and students to discuss the latest advances and implementations in the foundations, theory, models and applications of time series analysis and forecasting. It focuses on interdisciplinary research encompassing computer science, mathematics, statistics and econometrics.

Recently, considerable attention has been placed on the development and application of tools useful for the analysis of the high-dimensional and/or high-frequency datasets that now dominate the landscape. The purpose of this Special Issue is to collect both methodological and empirical papers that develop and utilize state-of-the-art econometric techniques for the analysis of such data.

Fuzzy theory has become a subject that generates much interest among the courses for graduate students. However, it was not easy to find a suitable textbook to use in the introductory course and to recommend to the students who want to self-study. The main purpose of this book is just to meet that need. The author has given lectures on the fuzzy theory and its applications for ten years and continuously developed lecture notes on the subject. This book is a publication of the modification and summary of the lecture notes. The fundamental idea of the book is to provide basic and concrete concepts of the fuzzy theory and its applications, and thus the author focused on easy illustrations of the basic concepts. There are numerous examples and figures to help readers to understand and also added exercises at the end of each chapter. This book consists of two parts: a theory part and an application part. The first part (theory part) includes chapters from 1 to 8. Chapters 1 and 2 introduce basic concepts of fuzzy sets and operations, and Chapters 3 and 4 deal with the multi-dimensional fuzzy sets. Chapters 5 and 6 are extensions of the fuzzy theory to the number and function, and Chapters 7 and 8 are developments of fuzzy properties on the probability and logic theories.
