Since its inception in 1870, "The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record" has been at the forefront in publishing articles on Long Island families, many of them lengthy, definitive studies spread out over several issues. In a number of these articles the English or Dutch origin of families is established. No better purpose could be served than to gather these articles together and reprint them in their entirety, thus making available a mass of information on Long Island families that has previously been difficult to locate. With the articles appropriately consolidated and arranged, and additions and corrections from "The Record" properly appended, this two-volume compilation becomes the single greatest repository of Long Island genealogies in existence. In addition, it is fully indexed and is published with an introduction by Henry B. Hoff, former editor of "The Record."

"The focus of this study has been Wright migrations to and from Westchester and old Dutchess Counties, then further up the Hudson to Albany County and west. While a number of Wright families have been located in western New Yobk by 1790, only those families with Hudson Valley origins are included here." (P. [6] at beginning). The given names are listed alphabetically, followed by pertinent genealogical data.

A contribution to old Augusta County and Rockingham County and their descendants of the family of Harrison and allied lines. Rev. Thomas Harrison (1619-1682), an intimate of the Cromwell family, served as chaplain of the Virginia colony during Gov. Berkeley's first term. He immigrated to Jamestown, Virginia from England in 1640 and, changing from anti-Puritan to Puritan, moved to Massachusetts and marrying Dorothy Symonds about 1648/1649. He then returned to England. Benjamin Harrison, his brother, then immigrated to become the founder of the Harrison family of the James River in Virginia. Other colonial Harrisons who immigrated are detailed, along with many of their descendants and relatives, particularly those who settled in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Long Island of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia. Descendants and relatives also lived in West Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas, Florida, Kentucky, California and elsewhere. Includes many ancestors and genealogical data in England, Ireland and elsewhere.

This is a transcription of births, marriages, and deaths from the records of the First Presbyterian Church at Goshen. It is of importance because no public vital records exist for Orange County before the mid-19th century. Goshen, the county seat, was founded only two generations after the county's inception.
