An inspirational story that will resonate with all age groups from adults to teenagers, parents, mentors, and leaders, The Valley of Hope: A fable about self-discovery and a quest to find your true destiny takes us on an uplifting quest of self-discovery. Ping, a smooth little ball adopted by the Pong family is convinced his destiny is to be a golf champion. Misguidedly believing this is his true vocation, he strives valiantly to meet the aspirations of his family and bravely bears the vicious wrath of Thorn, his tutor in golf school, who whacks him relentlessly and fails miserably to get Ping to do anything right. Ping thinks he's a loser and finds solace among the Bad Balls for a while, but realises this too is not his true calling. Befriended by intriguing characters like Sunny the Sunflower, Chippie, Daphne, and Gardenia, Ping recognises the value of true friends, who strengthen his resolve and support him through his trials and tribulations as well as the joys and triumphs of his journey. With the help of Great Ping Fu, who acts as his guide and mentor, Ping encounters the lessons and mysteries of the Less Travelled Road, the Path Unknown, the Gardens of Criticism, Destruction, Forgiveness and Resentment to find his way onto the Destiny Train that sees him fulfil his potential. His journey ends in the Valley of Hope, where he discovers his true destiny. Carolyn Landesman is an inspirational leader, executive coach, and motivator. ***A quest fantasy/fantasy fiction adventure … The good folk of Wilstrome had lived with the ever-looming threat of the Skinkadink - or as they often refer to it, the monster in the mountains - for as long as they could remember. After a previous failed attempt to destroy the foul beast, the Skinkadink went quiet. Many believed it had succumbed to its wounds and was not seen or heard of again ... until now. Worrying talk of sightings and missing farm animals had led some to believe that it was stirring again and would wreak havoc on Wilstrome once more. The brave, sword cane fighting weasel, Plodweasel and his best friend, a rare two-footed scritch, known as Tamfoot, are tasked with forming a brave band of adventurers and undertaking a perilous quest; hunting and destroying the Skinkadink. With the aid of an orphaned boy, a young fisherman, named Brillo, they set about forming their party and ultimately, embark on an epic quest to end the monster's reign of terror.

Born on the eve of China’s Cultural Revolution, Ping Fu was separated from her family at the age of eight. She grew up fighting hunger and humiliation and shielding her younger sister from the teenagers in Mao’s Red Guard. At twenty-five, she found her way to the United States; her only resources were $80 and a few phrases of English. Yet Ping persevered, and the hard-won lessons of her childhood guided her to success in her new homeland. Aided by her well-honed survival instincts, a few good friends, and the kindness of strangers, she grew into someone she never thought she’d be—a strong, independent, entrepreneurial leader. “She tells her story with intelligence, verve and a candor that is often heart-rending.” —The Wall Street Journal “This well-written tale of courage, compassion, and undaunted curiosity reveals the life of a genuine hero.” —Booklist (starred review) “Her success at the American Dream is a real triumph.” —The New York Post

This book is an investigation of wisdom in its diverse nature and types. Wisdom may be as everyday as folk adages or as arcane as a religious parable. In one form it is highly practical, and in another it addresses what is fundamentally real. In another form it is moral wisdom, and when it is psychological wisdom it can inform wise judgment. It can be philosophical, and it can be religious. And in one form it is mystical wisdom. These types of wisdom are essentially different, even when they overlap. Often wisdom is proffered in wise sayings—such as proverbs, aphorisms, or maxims—but one form, mystical wisdom, defies articulation. In this book all these types of wisdom will be presented, drawing upon a diversity of sources, and critically examined. Offered wisdom carries in its train a number of issues, not the least of which is how to distinguish between true wisdom and pseudo-wisdom.Also it may be asked of wisdom, when it is true, whether it is true relativistically, varying with culture, or true universally. Many types of wisdom have their origin in antiquity, but can there be new forms of wisdom? Does wisdom, as contemporary philosophers have maintained, have an underlying universal nature? This book addresses these issues and others.
