A true story of greed and murder of Native Americans by their countrymen Journalist Dennis McAuliffe Jr. grew up believing that his Osage Indian grandmother, Sybil Bolton, had died an early death in 1925 from kidney disease. It was only by chance that he learned the real cause was a gunshot wound, and that her murder may well have been engineered by his own grandfather. As McAuliffe peeled away layers of suppressed history, he learned that Sybil was a victim of the "Osage Reign of Terror"—a systematic killing spree in the 1920s when white men descended upon the oil-rich Osage reservation to court, marry, and murder Native women to gain control of their money. The Deaths of Sybil Bolton is part murder mystery, part family memoir, and part spiritual journey.

The Orange Orchard and Other Stories is a collection of short stories based on personal experiences from childhood onward. There is one thread running through all the stories, namely the tragedy that everyone has to deal with. A Happy Hippy in London Town is a story about my English friend, Liz Stenning, while studying in Sheffield. It was good to see her recover after divorce, but her happiness was short-lived. The Day Blue Came was a joyful day. In the absence of both our parents, it ends in disaster. The killing of black birds seems like an omen pointing to the tragic loss of a very young child. I always recall that fairylike child when playing Willow-the-Wisp pianisimo on the piano. The visit of a beloved uncle also turns into a nightmare. Our father had disappeared into the dark night just like The Saint in one of his favorite 1960s novels. The Show Must Go On! used to be one of his favorite quotes. My mother wrote prophetically in her last letter to me that death is part of life a few weeks before she died in a tragic car crash.

Previously published individually, these four great novellas are collected in one book for the first time! “The Legacy”—Valerian Blackwood is summoned to his aged uncle’s country estate to help the old man settle a problem with his heir. What Valerian finds is a mystery—and the love of his life. He only has to decide which is more important to him: solving the mystery or winning his lady. “Buried Treasure”—What is Hannah Jenkins to make of the wildly attractive silver-tongued man villagers bring to her family’s house after he is found injured on the shore near her seacoast home? He says he was the victim of pirates. But who is the pirate, and who is the prey? “Something Blue”—June Heywood’s coming wedding day is clouded by a vicious remark she overhears, causing her to wonder why the handsome and clever Lawrence, Lord Morrow, ever asked for her hand. Who should she believe? Gossip or her heart? “A Marriage of True Minds”—The bride’s sister and the groom’s brother, alike in temper, lock horns—all the while missing what their relatives can so plainly see.
