The book also includes short, memorable, personal anecdotes from some of the biggest and most in-demand escorts worldwide of the last two decades, such as Viktor Rom, Dallas Steele and Brian Bonds. Which country has the most sex workers? What City is the busiest for Escorts? How do you get the gift of a house or car by being good at sex? What were the first condoms made off? Why are red lights associated with sex workers? Christian and other nurses in the hostile modern and increasingly secular age may feel helpless in an environment that created the Liverpool Care Pathway (LCP) and continues to foster end of life 'care' through sedation and dehydration. The book aims to enlighten both health professionals and the public alike to their rights of conscience and knowledge of the needs of vulnerable patients whether related to ethical care or guidance and the law which can affect them. Indifference to patients' needs and suffering may be injurious to nurses' health all of whom have a conscience. This must be respected, protected and used as a guide to truly care for the patient's benefit, regardless of laws and professional pathways which may prove harmful to many vulnerable patients. The questioning nurse on ethical issues and dilemmas needs consideration, respect and support when attempting to act as the patient advocate. Managers at all levels need to be aware of the concerns of front line nurses and to be mindful that recruitment and retention are both equally important factors for the quality of patient care and nurse morale and work satisfaction. The NHS was a wonderful creation which is only as good as its staff at all levels. Its managers and government ministers must remember that the more authority invested in them, the more the accountability and transparency expected by both health professionals, their patients and the public.

'When Glass Breaks' is the heart-rending story of Ben Lindenheim, who became separated from his older brother during the Kindertransport, and who lived a life of heroism, trauma, adventure, love, denial, illness, family, failure and lies, but always in the hope of one day being reunited with his brother. Only at the end, does the reader discover the novel is narrated by Helen Painter, as she seeks to piece together fragments of her father's past, most of which he tried to conceal from his family. She knew only that he had a war pension due to a shrapnel injury - he had a scar; that he fought with the Royal Norfolk regiment - or so he said; that he was an army boxing champion - impossible to check out; that he spent a couple of years in South Africa - which may have been true as there were two African-language books on the bookshelves at home; that he was educated at Winchester - but he knew no Latin or Greek; that his family were killed in the Blitz, with one brother dying in North Africa, and which may have included a baby son - something his post-stroke lability let slip; and that he was Jewish - which she knew from her own DNA test, taken long after he died. Nothing much checked out and the family history searches revealed no mention of the surname before his marriage certificate. So, she filled in the blanks, and gave him a past, one which would honour the father with whom she had shared a difficult relationship, largely, she came to acknowledge, due to the psychological scars he bore. Anyone who has read 'En Passant' will have become acquainted with Saul Lindenheim, a minor character who has lived for many years with the guilt of being separated from his brother Ben during the Kindertransport and the hope of one day being reunited. 'When Glass Breaks' is the story of Ben's life.

Since the end of the Second World War, this audacious operation has remained little known amongst the public or military in the United Kingdom. It was an incredible endeavour executed by British and Australian service personnel. The deepest surface waterborne penetration behind enemy occupied lines undertaken by special forces of WW2. This hand-picked band of men would achieve what some thought to be impossible, a major strike at the very heart of the Japanese in their newly acquired Empire in South East Asia. This story ranks and deserves the same acknowledgment as exploits such as the Dambusters or Cockleshell Heroes. In the words of British Generals and US Admirals and Commanders, it achieved what everyone thought was impossible, without loss and with the minimum expenditure of resources. A terrible twist in the tail is that by not using the success of the mission as a propaganda victory as had been intended by Jaywick's commanders, a terrible price was paid by local Singaporeans who were scapegoated by the Japanese Secret Police. This is perhaps the reason that Operation Jaywick was never hailed with the success it truly deserved. The highly effective delivery of Operation Jaywick gave a green light to an even more ambitious endeavour from which no British or Australian personnel would survive, many being executed, beheaded by their Japanese captors. The Tiger's Revenge is the story told by the son of a Special Operations Executive crew member who was the only British survivor of Operation Jaywick.
