Jan Blits' edition represents something new among editions of Julius Caesar. In addition to textual glosses and explanatory notes focused on the rhetorical, historical, and political contexts of the speeches, it includes a wide array of quotations and citations from writers of classical antiquity chosen to illuminate passages of special pertinence to the Roman world represented in the play. Highlighting Shakespeare's significance as a political thinker, it also demonstrates his deep understanding of Roman antiquity, its competing worldviews, and the demise of its Republic. Intended for a broad readership, the edition also includes a Preface, Introduction, Bibliography, and a topical Index.

At CBy, we're avid readers ourselves- so our ethos is to make good, honestly advertised books that we'd buy and read ourselves- not just to maximise our profits. We guarantee that this book: Comes with size 11 text- some companies like to scrimp a bit and use small text. We know how hard it is to read books like that, so we use a standard size 11 serif font that's been designed for legibility throughout. Comes in a standard size that looks great on your bookshelf- sometimes, we accidentally buy books that have been sized like childrens' books to save money. That's why we're upfront- this particular book is sized 5.5" by 8.5." Comes with a beautifully designed glossy cover, unlike anything on the market. We hate books that look like they've come from a time capsule- so our team of designers have come up with a timeless design that's true to Julius Caesar's hertiage. We love it, but take a look at it yourself in the flesh- again, if you don't like it, simply return it, no questions asked. Comes with the complete original text from Shakespeare's First Folio (how many publishing companies reference that in their Amazon description!)- we're so confident of this that we've even added a reproduction of the title page. We hate books that miss things out- and we've carefully proofread Julius Caesar to make sure that's not the case. We love this book, and we hope that you will too. Set at the birth of the Roman Empire, William Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Julius Caesar is a gripping historical play full of drama and betrayal, exploring how principles and a murder with good intentions can slide into malice and civil war. Applauded as one of his best plays but also as one of his most morally ambiguous, the complexity of the protagonists have wowed many an audience, as they show how ambition can lead to death.

The Tragedy of Julius Caesar By William Shakespeare The Tragedy of Julius Caesar is a tragedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written in 1599. It is one of several plays written by Shakespeare based on true events from Roman history, which also include Coriolanus and Antony and Cleopatra. The play opens with the commoners of Rome celebrating Caesar's triumphant return from defeating Pompey's sons at the battle of Munda. Two tribunes, Flavius and Marrullus, discover the commoners celebrating, insult them for their change in loyalty from Pompey to Caesar, and break up the crowd. They also plan on removing all decorations from Caesar's statues and ending any other festivities. In the next scene, during Caesar's parade on the feast of Lupercal, a soothsayer warns Caesar to "Beware the ides of March", a warning he disregards. The action then turns to the discussion between Brutus and Cassius. In this conversation, Cassius attempts to influence Brutus' opinions into believing Caesar should be killed, preparing to have Brutus join his conspiracy to kill Caesar.
