We all know that an attitude of gratitude helps each day be a little better. When times are difficult and challenges abound, having a thankful heart is the catalyst for the abundant life. The Thankful Heart, by well known family authors Richard and Linda Eyre, is a book to keep or a book to give, filled with messages of gratitude and inspiring images for even the most difficult day. In this beautifully illustrated book, we find the opportunity to consciously and deliberately develop our own skill to feel gratitude more deeply, and give it more freely. And we are challenged to turn the passive holiday noun “Thanksgiving” into the active, year-long verb “Thanks-Giving.” New York Times #1 bestselling authors Richard and Linda Eyre like to think of each November-December Holiday Season as another chapter in their exploration of Thanks-Giving. Early in their marriage, tired of the commercialism and conformity of Christmas cards, they began sending out a Thanksgiving Poem each year to friends and family. As the years rolled by, their life was increasingly defined by those three words—Family, Friends, and Thanks-giving. Through their poetry and the photos taken by family members, we go with the Eyres on their journey through various phases and perspectives of the transforming emotion of gratitude, and in the book’s final section, they share each of their Thanksgiving cards from the last forty-three years.

I have found that gift books are a good and easy way to look into a Christian writer's beliefs, even if it's a writer that you don't generally prefer. I confess I don't like Lori Wick's fiction, but I never really had a chance to look into the life of the lady herself. In this book, amid Wick's numerous reflections and stories, I found a lovely woman who is, in fact, not unlike me!?I may not like Wick's fiction, but her non-fiction tales in this book are a delight to read. I loved reading about her experiences as a mother, wife, and woman in general with God directing her life. Wick wonderfully relates life lessons with her experiences and applies the Gospel seamlessly to the struggles a Christian faces. Along with her inspiring stories are beautiful paintings and various quotes, both Biblical and otherwise, which blend together to make this book a gem to read.?I highly recommend this book as a gift to yourself or someone else. I know I'll be repeatedly visiting its pages in the years to come.

Find your life and true calling by losing yourself in the ordinary rhythms of life with the people God has placed around you. Popular blogger, Shannan Martin offers Christians who are longing for a more meaningful life a simple starting point: learn what it is to love and be loved right where God has placed you. What does it look like to live lives of meaning? And how do we do it between loads of laundry and reimagining leftovers? Where do we even begin? For Christ-followers living in an increasingly complicated world, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure of how to live a life of intention and meaning. But in The Ministry of Ordinary Places, speaker and writer Shannan Martin offers a surprisingly simple answer: it’s about being with people, the ones right next door. As she walks you through her own story she challenges you to see your community through a wider lens of love, following in the footsteps of a Savior who came as an everyday man and spent his life circled up with regular folks just like us. Along the way, she shares discoveries about the vital importance of showing up and committing for the long haul, despite the inevitable encounters with brokenness and uncertainty. With transparency, humor, heart-tugging storytelling, and more than a little personal confession, Martin shows us that no matter where we live or how much we have, as we learn what it is to be with people as Jesus was, we'll find our very lives. The details will look quiet and ordinary, and the call will both exhaust and exhilarate us. But it will be the most worth-it adventure we will ever take and The Ministry of Ordinary Places will help guide you along the path.

How to grow as thankful women of God. As women, we are often encouraged to "count our blessings". But truly biblical gratitude is much more than this. Mary K. Mohler unpacks Scripture to help us grow in gracious gratitude (thanking God for who he is) as well as natural gratitude (thanking him for his blessings) - and to identify and deal with some of the things that hinder us - to help us rediscover the joy of a thankful heart. This thoroughly Bible-centred unpacking of the reasons for gratitude builds on Mary K. Mohler's 25 years experience in mentoring seminary wives at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Discussion questions at the end of each chapter make this book ideal for group use as well as for individuals.
