The Engineers' Club of Dayton originated in the generous desire of two of Dayton's engineers to share with others, some of the prominent men attracted to our city because of the fact that we are attempting the unusual in Dayton. The civic welfare is in the hands of trained engineers, versatile in sewage disposal, water supply, street paving, and similar city problems. Our Flood Prevention Plans mark the first practical solution of stream control, as applied to an entire rivershed. Dayton's one thousand factories have able engineers contributing no little to the world's progress. The eyes of the world are upon Dayton. Just a short time ago ten expert drainage engineers visited this city: What an inspiration; what widening of horizon; what an encouragement for the younger fellows; what a contribution to Dayton's future just to meet these men, get their view points, listen to the words of wisdom that will fall from their lips, and study their personalities. Discussion of questions, in the light of Science, is necessary to form sound judgments, and so it seemed that a meeting place, permitting the dissemination and discussion of engineering problems, coupled with the fostering of good fellowship, and the inspiration and encouragement to the younger men, would confer lasting benefit upon all the parties concerned, and especially upon our city, Dayton.
