"It was all going so nicely, right up until the massacre." Twenty years ago, feared general Cobalt Zosia led her five villainous captains and mercenary army into battle, wrestling monsters and toppling an empire. When there were no more titles to win and no more worlds to conquer, she retired and gave up her legend to history. Now the peace she carved for herself has been shattered by the unprovoked slaughter of her village. Seeking bloody vengeance, Zosia heads for battle once more, but to find justice she must confront grudge-bearing enemies, once-loyal allies, and an unknown army that marches under a familiar banner. Five villans. One Legendary General. A final quest for vengence.

The Silver Horde, by Rex Beach, is an adventurous tale of ambition, love, and survival set in the rugged wilderness of Alaska during the early 20th century. The story revolves around Boyd Emerson, a determined young man who ventures to the remote northern territory to make his fortune in the salmon fishing industry. Along the way, he encounters both allies and adversaries, including Cherry Malotte, a strong and independent woman who becomes his unexpected partner in this perilous journey. Beach's vivid and gripping narrative captures the harsh realities of frontier life, where the struggle for success often clashes with moral dilemmas and the raw power of nature. As Emerson battles ruthless competitors and navigates complex relationships, he learns that true wealth lies not just in material gains but in the values of loyalty, love, and integrity. The Silver Horde is celebrated for its dynamic plot, richly drawn characters, and its authentic portrayal of the Alaskan frontier. Rex Beach’s compelling storytelling and his knack for creating suspenseful, action-packed scenes make this novel a classic adventure that resonates with readers even today. 1909. Illustrated. Rex Beach was well on his way to becoming a lawyer when he was hit by Gold Rush Fever and left for the Klondike to strike it rich. He never found gold, but his travels had sparked his imagination and he began to write. His tales of adventures quickly made him into a popular author. The Silver Horde begins: The trail to Kalvik leads down from the northward mountains over the tundra which flanks the tide flats, then creeps out upon the salt ice of the river and across to the village. It boasts no travel in summer, but by winter an occasional toil-worn traveler may be seen issuing forth from the Great Country beyond, bound for the open water; while once in thirty days the mail-team whirls out of the forest to the south, pauses one night to leave word of the world, and then is swallowed up in the silent hills. Kalvik, to be sure, is not much of a place, being hidden away from the main-travelled routes to the interior and wholly unknown except to those interested in the fisheries. “David Gemmell tells a tale of very real adventure, the stuff of true epic fantasy.”—R. A. Salvatore Druss, Captain of the Ax, is the stuff of legends. Tales of his battles are told throughout the land, and the stories expand with each telling. But Druss himself grows older, until finally, the warrior turns his back on glory and retreats to his mountain lair. There he awaits his old enemy: death. But far below, the barbarian Nadir hordes are on the march. All that stands between them and the Drenai people is a mighty six-walled fortress, Dros Delnoch—a great citadel that seems destined to fall. If it does, the Nadir will sweep inexorably across the land, killing all who oppose them. Reluctantly Druss agrees to come down from his mountaintop to lead this last, hopeless fight. Lost causes mean nothing to him—he has fought in such battles a thousand times in a thousand lands. And he is a hero to inspire a new generation of warriors. He is Druss the Legend. Thus begins David Gemmell’s most celebrated novel—an unrivaled classic of mythic heroism and magnificent adventure. . . .

"Genghis Khan and the Mongol Horde" is a book by Harold Lamb about the rise of one of the greatest empires in history. It is a well written book with plenty of details. It is also informative and covers the subject well. Genghis Khan was one of the most successful rulers in history. His empire stretched from the Pacific Coast of China to Russia and the Middle East. Yet he started as a humble nomad moving from place to place in the icy steppe. Genghis Khan and the Mongol Horde covers all the fine points of the ruler's reign. It names all of his top advisers and his worst enemies. It gives details of military tactics and even the clothing of the period. It taught me new things about Asia and increased my knowledge of Genghis Khan. This book is a nonfiction book that is written like a novel. The writing is smooth, well put together, and engaging. It helps you imagine what life was like in the Mongol era.
