Herbert Woodward Martin is a prize-winning poet and performer, an actor and playwright, a singer and opera librettist, a professor, and a scholar. Born in Alabama in 1933 and educated in Toledo and New York, Martin has lived and worked most of his life in Ohio. His parents appreciated literature and music and saw to it that their young son was immersed in the arts. The family moved to Toledo, Ohio, when Herbert was twelve years old. He began to write poetry during his undergraduate years at the University of Toledo, from which he graduated in 1964. Herbert Woodward Martin and the African American Tradition in Poetry chronicles the writing and performing career of Herbert W. Martin, focusing on the way his life has informed his art and situating his creative work within the context of the African American tradition in poetry. Author Ronald Primeau examines Martin's place in American literature with particular emphasis on his multidisciplinary talents and his contributions to the arts through his highly regarded performances of poetry (especially that of Paul Laurence Dunbar) and his acting, playwriting, and composing. Even though Martin's work is highly regarded, has been anthologiz

A timeless selection of some of Charles Bukowski’s best unpublished and uncollected poems Charles Bukowski was a prolific writer who produced countless short stories, novels, and poems that have reached beyond their time and place to speak to generations of readers all over the world. Many of his poems remain little known since they appeared in small magazines but were never collected, and a large number of them have yet to be published. In Storm for the Living and the Dead, Abel Debritto has curated a collection of rare and never- before-seen material—poems from obscure, hard-to-find magazines, as well as from libraries and private collections all over the country. In doing so, Debritto has captured the essence of Bukowski’s inimitable poetic style—tough and hilarious but ringing with humanity. Storm for the Living and the Dead is a gift for any devotee of the Dirty Old Man of American letters.

"At once a love song and a dirge to a landscape being swallowed by the waters that define it."—St. Petersburg Times An evocative meditation on destruction and creation, the sacred and ephemeral, along Louisiana's coast. In poems that bear witness to the eroding bayou country and its Cajun culture, Martha Serpas venerates a vanishing landscape defined by water—sensuous, fecund, and destructive. As marsh turns into gulf, identity and consciousness are transformed as well. Serpas's verses invest paradox with her own defiantly spiritual meaning.

In poems that bear witness to the eroding bayou country and its Cajun culture, Martha Serpas venerates a vanishing landscape defined by water. Her verses grapple with grieving a lost home and advocating for change. Most of the book is set in the Barataria-Terrebonne Estuary (Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes), Louisiana. "Poem Found" was written in response to the levee breaches caused by Hurricane Katrina.

With stunning original artwork, Tim's sublime ranty beat-poem weaves through the world we live in, where alternative medicine is given credence and public funding, psychics have primetime TV exposure and people are happy with mystery rather than answers. While Storm herself may not be converted, audiences from London to Sydney have been won over by Tim's lyrical wonders and the timely message of the piece in a society where science is attacked as the enemy of belief. STORM is the illustrated book born from the acclaimed internet sensation - the animation that has become an anthem for critical thinking worldwide, attracting over three million views. Fucking Poetry is a book of working class poetry from the heart and pocket of a talented young poet. This book is the culmination of one and half years of Dustin Scott carrying a notebook in his pocket and writing poems when inspired. This pocket project has produced a raw unapologetic look at life from a loving and spiritual man who isn't afraid to mix in some cuss words when called for. Bob "Uncle Bacon" Hurton calls it: Raw and unflinching, love poems for your Post-Post-Modern angst. If you like poems that have traveled in the artist's pocket for over a year then you'll loved these aged and seasoned works from this promising new poet.

This book is a collection of inspired poetry with photographs from travels abroad and artwork from the author’s son. The graphic illustrations noted in this collection give poetic imagery and form. The major patterns of Lyric Poetry noted include: (1) Japanese Haiku, the shortest form, consists of 17 syllables in three lines of 5-7-5 syllables. (2) The ode -- a longer, serious poem commemorating an important event – exudes feelings of praise and noteworthiness. (3) The elegy (related to eulogies) mulls on issues and events of life and death; it is often in obituaries and funeral services. Various poems reflect the elegy pattern as demonstrated by love poems expressing deep love. Others deal with life and death, and several are relating to current events in religion and politics. Most of the poems exhibit ode and elegy forms. Praiseworthy aspects of this poetry include the rhythm and the imagery engendered for the reader through word choices. This is strong and powerful collection of poems that will surely stir your soul. They draw in the reader to make one feel like you are right there living in the action portrayed so aptly in words. The poems in this volume incorporate a variety of styles, focus, content, knowledge, and emotions. I believe every reader will find something in this collection to stir the heart and stimulate the intellect. These poems are a bountiful treasure, extraordinarily powerful and thought-provoking.
