In today's world, it can be difficult to maintain your faith. Those seeking a greater understanding of the Bible have numerous excellent theological commentaries available to them, but due to volume and depth, many of these are out of reach of laypeople. Others lose contact with the Bible because it no longer seems relevant to life. They use a superficial knowledge of science and evolution to exclude God and faith from their experiences. The Layman's Commentary: Volume 3-Books of Wisdom presents a passage by passage explanation of the five Books of the Bible, known as Wisdom. In this third volume, author John Devine shows how these books address most of the issues of life from the existence of evil and suffering to the frustrations and futility of worldly philosophies. They give an understanding of existence and provide the path to a meaningful life. He explains God's continued selfrevelation and plan for a relationship with humankind and considers the conflict and consequences of the desire of the individual to be independent from God. The third book in The Layman's Commentary series, Volume 3-Books of Wisdomshows that knowledge and experience from this period is still valid today, both the promises and the warnings, because God's character has not changed - nor has the frailty of human nature. Devine draws out the practical application of these timeless truths as they relate to everyday experience and shows how they confirm that science and faith are complementary in an informed worldview. They include guidelines that enrich our personal relationship with God.

One day in church, a reader said it was in the Old Testament people couldnt find it, some looked at the index, and others searched wildly for the book. I was amazed, and thought those people do not read or study the Bible. Then the reader gave the page number. God sees, understands, and knows. What would he say to you? How well do you know the Bible? Why is Isaiah the greater prophet? Why are all the apostle Paul's writings different? What I have done is to make it easier to read, by asking questions, to try and make you think.

On a summer's day, Ellen returns to the coastal town she grew up in, Victory Point. Revisiting old haunts and people from her past, she feels increasingly disconnected. Exploring a town, which itself is an experiment in how to live, Ellen searches for some comfort in her own history that might just give her the strength to move forward. 'Victory Point' quietly explores the idea of how we choose to live and be remembered.

Late one summer evening in Atlanta, a 20-year-old man walked into a suburban superette and paused to examine the magazine rack. When the store's only other customer made her purchase and left, the youth strolled to the checkout counter, pulled a .357 revolver out of his jacket, pointed it at the clerk and ordered the frightened boy to lie down on the floor. He grabbed the $87 that was in the cash register and ran for the door, where he collided with an elderly woman trying to enter. At the sight of his weapon she fainted to the sidewalk. Her next week would be spent in Grady Hospital recovering from what was called a slight heart attack. The robber reached his car parked beside the curb, but even before he could get it started the police had been flagged down by an onlooker and were in the parking lot. Their quarry surrendered meekly; he was handcuffed and carried downtown. In a darkened apartment, the lights turned off for nonpayment, his wife and child were left without support. It was almost a routine event. An armed robbery occurs every few hours in Atlanta. The damage was relatively slight in this case: a woman temporarily hospitalized, a trembling store clerk vowing that he will quit his job as soon as he can find another way to pay his college tuition. The "suspect in custody" received 10 years in prison, but he had been there before. He was nine years old the first time he got busted, for stealing a baseball bat, and he spent three months in a Dekalb County juvenile facility waiting for the court to find him a foster home. Now his record, as the police say, is as long as your arm.
