Excerpt from The Register Book of Marriages Belonging to the Parish of St. George, Hanover Square, in the County of Middlesex, Vol. 2: 1788 to 1809 The Second Volume of the Register of Marriages at St. George, Hanover Square, commences with the year 1788 and is carried down to December 30, 1809. The original entries are contained in part of the sixth, the whole of the seventh, eighth and ninth, and part of the tenth of the seventeen bound books of Registers that are kept at the Church. As might be expected, the growth of the Parish is evidenced in this Volume by the increasing number of the marriages solemnized at the Church; and the character of the entries also shews that it had by this time become a favourite place of residence for Members of. Both Houses of Parliament, and for others who usually resided in London for a portion only of the year. As one of the consequences of the then recent revolution in France, there were at this time many of the French nobility living in London, and it is somewhat curious to note that some of them appear to have contracted matrimonial alliances in this country, of which the record is preserved in these Registers.
