The book on The General Theory of Electrical Machines, by B. Adkins, which was published in 1957, has been well received, as a manual containing the theories on which practical methods of calculating machine performance can be based, and as a text-book for advanced students. Since 1957, many important developments have taken place in the practical application of electrical machine theory. The most important single factor in the development has been the increasing availability of the digital computer, which was only beginning to be used in the solution of machine and power system problems in 1957. Since most of the recent development, particularly that with which the authors have been concerned, has related to a. c. machines, the present book, which is in other respects an up-to-date version of the earlier book, deals primarily with a. c. machines. The second chapter on the primitive machine does deal to some extent with the d. c. machine, because the cross-field d. c. generator servesas an introduction to the two-axis theory and can be used to provide a simple explanation of some of the mathematical methods. The equations also apply directly to a. c. commutator machines. The use of the word 'general' in the title has been criticized. It was never intended to imply that the treatment was comprehen sive in the sense that every possible type of machine and problem was dealt with.

This "companion" guide helps readers bridge the gap between theoretical principles of alternating current and their practical application in the full range of typical alternating current problems. Assuming only a basic background in the subject, it provides brief technical/theoretical notes, outlines the essential tools, methods, and procedures used to solve problems, and presents carefully detailed solutions to selected problems -- highlighting alternative methods, where applicable. Covers alternating current fundamentals, phasor summation of A.C quantities, A.C series circuits, alternating current parallel circuits, power factor improvement, three phase alternating current circuits, the transformer, the alternator, the induction motor, and complex notation - the "j" operator. For anyone who works with alternating current problems.

The third edition of this book exposes the reader to a wide array of engineering principles and their application to agriculture. It presents an array of more or less independent topics to facilitate daily assessments or quizzes, and aims to enhance the students' problem solving ability. Each chapter contains objectives, worked examples and sample problems are included at the end of each chapter. This book was first published in the late 60's by AVI. It remains relevant for post secondary classes in Agricultural Engineering Technology and Agricultural Mechanics, and secondary agriculture teachers.

Electrical Installations Technology covers the syllabus of the City and Guilds of London Institute course No. 51, the "Electricians B Certificate. This book is composed of 15 chapters that deal with basic electrical science and electrical installations. The introductory chapters discuss the fundamentals and basic electrical principles, including the concept of mechanics, heat, magnetic fields, electric currents, power, and energy. These chapters also explore the atomic theory of electric current and the electric circuit, conductors, and insulators. The subsequent chapter focuses on the chemistry of an electric cell, which is classified into two types, namely, the primary and secondary cells. This text also describes the principles, construction, types, and specifications of direct current machines. A chapter emphasizes the storage of energy for short periods in a capacitor, along with a brief discussion of its theory and construction. Other chapters are devoted to alternating-current systems. The remaining chapters cover the commonly used electrical measuring instruments in electrical installation work. This book is an invaluable source for electricians.
