Excerpt from The Principles and Practice of Teaching and Class Management I have tried throughout to make the subject suggestive, and, while laying stress upon principles and essentials, to leave room for that originality of treatment by the teacher himself, and for that elasticity and expansiveness in practice, which characterise all good method. Mere unintelligent imitation of the detailed plans of others is not what is required in school work, and should not be the aim of any true teacher. One never knows how much one owes to one's friends and teachers, be they men or books. I am deeply indebted to both; but to acknowledge every point in detail would have been as impossible to me as it would have been weari some to the reader. It is with a lively sense of gratitude that I offer my thanks to those kind friends who have aided me in the revision of the proof sheets, and by their wise advice have enabled me to remove many defects. One, to whom I owe much for useful suggestions and friendly criticism, has passed away before the work was completed. Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

Principles of Classroom Management, Third Canadian Edition is designed to help you improve the teacher-student relationship in order to foster positive student behaviour and academic success. Instead of labelling students as problematic, the authors emphasize the situation, placing the onus on teachers to modify either their behaviour or the situation. The other pillar of Principles of Classroom Management is its up-to-date Canadian content. It reflects Canadian values through its references to current Canadian research, discussion of changes in Canadian schools, and coverage of best practices across the country. The case studies have also been revisited to ensure they reflect real, current issues in Canadian schools.
