Potbelly syndrome (PBS) is a metabolic disorder that affects about one-third of the adults in industrialized countries. Its most important symptoms are abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes. Contrary to popular belief, these conditions are caused by chronic infections, not by bad habits. PBS is initiated by a small, long-term excess of the stress hormone cortisol. The extra cortisol stimulates our appetite and slows down our metabolism. It makes fat accumulate in places where it isn't wanted or needed. Most of the fat settles around our waists, but some of it settles in our liver and muscles. Liver and muscle cells aren't supposed to store fat, and the fat prevents them from working correctly. As a result, we feel tired and hungry much of the time. As our potbellies grow and our PBS gets worse, our blood pressure, cholesterol, insulin, and blood sugar levels rise. Most of the excess cortisol is produced in response to mild, chronic infections. Some of the germs that cause PBS also produce sores in our arteries. When these sores are large enough, they can block arteries and cause heart attacks. The Potbelly Syndrome explains how to diagnose and treat some of the germs that cause PBS and heart disease. If you've done everything you were supposed to do and still gained weight, became diabetic, or had a heart attack, or if you are a medical professional who suspects that there are serious gaps in the current understanding of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, The Potbelly Syndrome will provide you with the answers you need to bring about better health. Mainstream medicine considers type 2 diabetes to be an irreversible, incurable disease. It is painlessly simple to prevent, complete reversal is a totally tangible goal, and in the rare cases in which reversal is not possible, there are easy and practical ways to live a long, healthy, and prosperous life as a type 2 diabetic without complications. Even the disease itself is so misunderstood by mainstream health authorities and dieticians alike that it is almost hard not to laugh at the beliefs they have about its causation. They assert that eating a high-fat, high-calorie diet and not getting enough exercise is the CAUSE of type 2 diabetes. Their only challengers assert that eating carbohydrates causes type 2 diabetes! I swear, I’m not making this up. Read more, as I reveal how I dropped my fasting blood sugar by 26% in less than a month by eating a diet high in saturated fat, high-glycemic carbohydrates, and calories while sitting in front of a computer writing this eBook in lieu of exercise.

In this groundbreaking book, Dr. Alexander G. Schauss explains the relationship between stress, insulin resistance and glucose intolerance to disordered eating, compulsive eating, and the resultant overweight or obesity - including the 'apple-shaped' paunch, called 'intra-abdominal fat', that can be a direct result of life's stresses leading to excess levels of the hormone cortisol.

This book was written to help you avoid heart disease and PBS. If it's already too late to avoid these problems, this book can help you recover. The first few chapters explain how common germs cause heart disease and raise cortisol levels. Beginning with Chapter 6, the emphasis shifts toward cortisol-related illnesses: high blood pressure, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. Chronic subtle hypercortisolism is the technical term for potbelly syndrome, and Dr. Mrin explains how to diagnose this disorder in Chapter 16.

Haschek and Rousseaux's Handbook of Toxicologic Pathology, recognized by many as the most authoritative single source of information in the field of toxicologic pathology, has been extensively updated to continue its comprehensive and timely coverage. The fourth edition has been expanded to four separate volumes due to an explosion of information in this field requiring new and updated chapters. Completely revised with a number of new chapters, Volume 1, "Principles and the Practice of Toxicologic Pathology," covers the practice of toxicologic pathology in three parts: Principles of Toxicologic Pathology, Methods in Toxicologic Pathology, and the Practice of Toxicologic Pathology. Other volumes in this work round out the depth and breadth of coverage.Volume 2 encompasses "Toxicologic Pathology in Safety Assessment" and "Environmental Toxicologic Pathology". These two sections cover the application of toxicologic pathology in developing specific product classes, principles of data interpretation for safety assessment, and toxicologic pathology of major classes of environmental toxicants. Volumes 3 and 4 provide deep and broad treatment of "Target Organ Toxicity", emphasizing the comparative and correlative aspects of normal biology and toxicant-induced dysfunction, principal methods for toxicologic pathology evaluation, and major mechanisms of toxicity. These volumes comprise the most authoritative reference on toxicologic pathology for pathologists, toxicologists, research scientists, and regulators studying and making decisions on drugs, biologics, medical devices, and other chemicals, including agrochemicals and environmental contaminants. Each volume is being published separately. - Provides new chapters on digital pathology, juvenile pathology, in vitro/in vivo correlation, big data technologies and in-depth discussion of timely topics in the area of toxicologic pathology - Offers high-quality and trusted content in a multi-contributed work written by leading international authorities in all areas of toxicologic pathology - Features hundreds of full-color images in both the print and electronic versions of the book to highlight difficult concepts with clear illustrations
