Cyrus II, a prince of ancient Persia, continues to influence the antiquity of Iran in this third novel. He is forced to contend with numerous family problems. Cyrus marries happily, but his mother becomes contentious out of female jealousy. His father bans his cousin, a dangerous princess, from their country, and she satisfies her vindictiveness and personal hatred by gaining remarkable influence with King Astyages, the Great KIng of Media, who is Cyrus' grandfather. King Astyages taunts Cyrus and his father and wages war against Persia with the encouragement of the beautiful banned princess. Cyrus and his father's problems are further compounded in commerce. A dishonest Median minister assigns unjust tax burdens to them out of cruelty and also plots directly with the banned princess against Prince Cyrus to either cause him trouble with his grandfather, or to kill him. Cyrus and his father are severely injured by shocking physical punishments. This leads to the death of his father and Cyrus inherits the crown, but he is unable to reign in peace. Friends are hard to find. Tribal and clan leaders in Persia are reluctant to trust the new king's ability to govern or to protect their peasants. He seeks support from other nations and extended family members, but their response is shallow. King Cyrus gets limited aid from secret allies. A powerful man Cyrus respects provides timely help, and unexpected success presents the new king with broader problems.

For many years, Odil Hannes Steck has been regarded as among the world’s foremost authorities on the Hebrew Bible’s prophetic tradition, yet very little of his work has appeared in English. In this book, Steck surveys the results of his extensive and careful research, presenting his theory of the prophetic books’ development from oral to current canonical form. He summarizes his redactional work on the prophetic corpus and develops an understanding of the theological import of the text in its history of development.

This collection of lectures contains Steiner's strongest statements on the issues of human relationships within a spiritual community. Occasioned by a scandal involving people influenced by psychoanalysis, these lectures are Steiner's comprehensive assessment of Freud's work and psychoanalysis as a whole. Steiner shows, our physical life, including human sexuality, has spiritual roots; and that looking to sexuality for the explanation of human behavior is therefore looking in the wrong direction. He also makes clear that becoming part of a spiritual community, such as the Anthroposophical Society, entails special responsibilities and a new way of being.

How to Keep Your Soul Alive after Twenty-Seven. This could have been the title of this book. The author shows that the natural development of the soul stops at around the age of twenty-seven. After that, nothing happens for our inner being unless we learn to make it happen. Part of the tragic nature of our time is that more and more people allow their soul life to die at twenty-seven, so that the remainder of their life becomes a kind of mummification. Rudolf Steiner explains how, by exerting our thinking and feeling, we can keep our soul alive and growing. This is ultimately the only way we can make this incarnation a satisfactory one. Through such effort, we can continue to develop inwardly until a very advanced age—each year, becoming richer and more interesting than the one before. Here is a book that gives real meaning to the idea that we live in a state of becoming!
