What if fear is the new brave? That's the question that you need answered if you are living afraid. Finding courage begins with fear itself--fear of the Lord. I Choose Brave reveals a countercultural plan to help you where you are--knee-deep in fears of parenting, the future, your marriage, and a world that feels unstable. When you're feeling fearful, the last thing you need is a social-media meme telling you to simply "power through" your fears. In I Choose Brave, Katie Westenberg digs deep into Scripture and shows that finding the courage to overcome our fears must start with fear of the Lord. Hundreds of passages speak to this foundational truth, yet we have somehow relegated them to antiquity. In sharing her own compelling story of facing her worst fear, Katie serves up theological truth with relatable application. In this book, you will · discover a fresh take on an old truth that displaces fear once and for all · understand why the culture's idea of "fearlessness" is a farce · access the holy courage you were made for With this new knowledge comes tremendous freedom. Hidden in the cleft of the Rock, the One truly worthy of our fear, you will begin to understand the only path to real courage.

But all the kids are wearing them! Any child who has ever craved something out of reach will relate to this warm, refreshingly realistic story. Features an audio read-along. "I have dreams about those shoes. Black high-tops. Two white stripes." All Jeremy wants is a pair of those shoes, the ones everyone at school seems to be wearing. But Jeremy’s grandma tells him they don’t have room for "want," just "need," and what Jeremy needs are new boots for winter. When Jeremy’s shoes fall apart at school, and the guidance counselor gives him a hand-me-down pair, the boy is more determined than ever to have those shoes, even a thrift-shop pair that are much too small. But sore feet aren’t much fun, and Jeremy comes to realize that the things he has -- warm boots, a loving grandma, and the chance to help a friend -- are worth more than the things he wants.

Henry Brusett is the only one who can explain the mysterious death of Calvin Teague. He's the only one who truly knows how the young man came to be bloodied and lifeless on his land in Montana's vast backcountry. But Henry won't say anything. His silence and its ripple across his small community form the heart of Matt Pavelich's engrossing second novel, The Other Shoe. Henry never wanted much more than a family and his days spent as a sawyer deep in the wilderness. But by middle–age Henry is divorced, disabled, and isolated on a remote plot of land in Montana. After years of self–imposed loneliness, Henry meets Karen, who's half his age and knows nothing but her own willful solitude. Their union is the unlikeliest of bonds, a mix of comfort and guilt for Henry who believes he's too old for Karen. But it's also the spark of his undoing, a decision that leads him toward one of his greatest regrets. As members of Henry and Karen's small town try to both uncover and cover–up the truth surrounding Calvin Teague's untimely death, The Other Shoe moves toward the inescapable and shines in the rarity of Pavelich's assured and haunting style.

I began writing years ago when faced with perplexing choices in life. Some of the information shared here has also been told through a documentary that was done by my ex-husband. At the time, I was included in his story for the benefit of their message on gender issues. However, my focus is more on what makes me, me . . . Its more related to why I felt the need to support some events in life and why I retreated from others. Acceptance is key here. I cannot change events that happened anymore than I could change the way my husband felt about himself. I cannot change the illness and death of my father anymore than I could change the fire that destroyed our business. I cannot change the memory of being chased out of a house by gunpoint. I have to accept that my life is being guided by lessons previously learned and experienced. It is being watched over by God, and it is completely in his hands. My acceptance is the joy that I find in nature and family. Its reflected in my work for those with special needs, both on and off a horse. It is in the delight I have when walking through the woods or catching turtles on a beach. My days are not perfect, but I accept that too, because life is always changing and you cant hang on to the past. Hopefully, I can let it go and look forward to the ever-changing events of life. Welcome to my world!
