Excerpt from The Oberlin Jubilee: 1833 1883 The Jubilee Celebration was heralded by an unofficial monthly publication called "Jubilee Notes," which found its way to every graduate, and a large number of the friends and former students of the Institution. The number for April contained the following announcement: 1833 - Oberlin Semi-Centennial - 1883. June 29 to July 4. In accordance with the action of the Trustees in 1881, the Alumni in 1882, as well as of the Faculty, the civil authorities of Oberlin, and the several churches; the Semi-Centennial Celebration of the village and College will be observed in 1883, beginning Friday evening, June 29th, and closing Wednesday evening, July 4th.
