Fresh out of school, Jax de Loite, an ambitious Australian First Nations girl, secures a junior researcher position at NewsLine, a leading national current affairs TV program. Feeling her talents are underutilized in research, she yearns for more challenging work. Des Carter, the Executive Producer of NewsLine and a long-time friend of her journalist father, recognizes her potential and decides to give her a chance. He assigns her to 'The Next Files' – a neglected archive brimming with public submissions of supernatural events and inexplicable phenomena. These files, humorously named in a nod to the 90s cult TV series 'The X-Files', are a collection of enigmas no one else wants to tackle, and they now land in Jax's lap. In her first case, Jax is tasked with interviewing a Feng Shui master brought to Sydney to dispel a ghost believed to haunt the Eight Dragons Restaurant. Unfamiliar with Chinese culture, she seeks the assistance of Doc Lee, a half Filipino, half Chinese Australian-raised science student who is skeptical about the existence of ghosts. Together, they embark on a journey into the supernatural. The plot thickens in the second story, 'Min Min'. Jax and Doc are sent to investigate a headline in a western Queensland newspaper: "US Scientist Abducted by Min Min Lights." While Jax leans towards theories of alien abduction, Doc searches for a scientific explanation. Their quest leads them to Pine Gap near Alice Springs, where Jax ventures into the mystical realm of the Dreamtime, seeking truths that transcend the known world.

A fully authorized, richly illustrated inside look into 50 of Mulder and Scully’s most memorable monster cases When an X-Files fan opens up The X-Files: The Official Archives, they are gaining access—for the ï¬?rst time—to Agents Mulder and Scully’s notes, records, and visual evidence from actual X-File reports. Designed to mimic a collection of FBI case ï¬?les and packed with such items as autopsy reports, mug shots, lab results, handwritten notes, newspaper clippings, pages ripped from antique books on the occult, and security camera printouts, this fully authorized book is the only one of its kind. Detailing the agents’ investigations into 50 cases of cryptids, biological anomalies, and parapsychic phenomena—from the Flukeman to The Great Mutato to Pusher—The X-Files: The Official Archives showcases some of the show’s greatest villains (some dastardly, some just misunderstood), and instructs future agents on how to successfully investigate the paranormal.

From the author of Hour of the Bees comes another captivating story that deftly blurs the line between reality and magic — and will leave you wondering What if? The Loch Ness Monster. The Frogman. Bigfoot. Twelve-year-old Miranda Cho used to believe in it all, used to love poring over every strange footprint, every stray hair, everything that proved that the world was full of wonders. But that was before her mother’s obsession with monsters cost Miranda her friends and her perfect school record, before Miranda found the stack of unopened bills and notices of foreclosure in the silverware drawer. Now the fact that her mom’s a cryptozoologist doesn’t seem wonderful — it’s embarrassing and irresponsible, and it could cost them everything. So Miranda agrees to go on one last creature hunt, determined to use all her scientific know-how to prove to her mother, once and for all, that Bigfoot isn’t real. Then her mom will have no choice but to grow up and get a real job — one that will pay the mortgage and allow Miranda to attend the leadership camp of her dreams. But when the trip goes horribly awry, will it be Miranda who’s forced to question everything she believes?

More than 20 years after it was first broadcast, The X-Files still holds the public imagination. Over nine seasons and two feature films, agents Mulder and Scully pursued monsters, aliens, mutants and shadowy conspirators across the American landscape. Running for more than 200 episodes, the series transformed television, crafting a postmodern mythology that spoke to the anxieties and uncertainties of the end of the 20th century. Covering the entire series from its debut through the second feature film, this book examines how creator Chris Carter and his team of writers turned a scrappy cult favorite on Fox into a global phenomenon.
