He has loyal fans, money, fame, a loving wife; CHERYL, and a beautiful summer home in an equally beautiful setting on Millboro Lake in Western Maine. Then, in an instant, he is wrenched away from everything he has worked so hard for. Torn away not by illness or accident or even by a catastrophe of nature, but by one of the people who made him the famed author he is; his self proclaimed greatest fan, CHARLES MORRISON QUEEG. Queeg collects first editions of his favorite authors, but this crazed fan also collects some of the authors themselves. Rex Stephenson is destined to be his latest acquisition the latest "guest" in Queeg's New Hampshire home! Many twists and turns later, Rex discovers one of the reason for his abduction. He has not had book signings for several years, so Queeg has abducted him in order to force him to sign all the books in his Stephenson collection! Further events prove to Rex that Queeg is a truer madman than he thought and a possible psychotic killer. Rex is now sure that he is not the only "guest" Queeg has ever had. Rex fights a psychological war of the minds with Queeg and struggles through horrifying events that test his sanity and perseverance. As he signs an old manuscript for Queeg that he had written as a teenager, he finds that these same events he is living through had happened to the protagonist in that old, forgotten story! Rex determines that he must find a way to escape from the impregnable cell in the basement of Queeg's residence as soon as possible or he is certain he will die there. Armed with only his mind and brilliant imagination, Rex perseveres and with outside help from his agent, DAVE HARTMANN, and his policeman friend, JOHNNY REAGAN, he finally manages an escape from his flaming prison; set ablaze by Queeg to cover his tracks before he disappears. However, this is not the end of Rex's tribulations at the hands of Queeg. Time passes, and when Queeg is nothing but a horrible, distant memory, Queeg bursts back into Rex's life in full fury. During a blinding winter blizzard as Rex is closing up his summer home for the winter, to his horror, he is confronted by Queeg once more; shotgun in hand, determined to extract his final vengeance from Rex Stephenson.
