It was begun with the feeling that this class of our fellow-citizens now have a peculiar claim upon our Christian efforts; that for many reasons these efforts can be most successfully made by the agency of men of their own color; and that there are certain broad methods of intellectual and moral and spiritual elevation, recognized by Christians of every name, in which we can work with any who will work with us.
